  1. This makes no sense,” Omar exclaimed on Twitter. “Sanctions are economic warfare. They have already caused medical shortages and countless deaths in Iran. You cannot claim to want deescalation and then announce new sanctions with no clear goal. This is not a measured response!”In support of Venezuelan dictator, Nicholas Maduro, Omar tweeted in response that “Trump’s new sanctions on Venezuela are nothing more than economic sabotage designed to force regime change by starving the very people we claim to be helping. … We should support dialogue, not a coup!”
Yet, when in comes to Israel, Omar is a full-throated supporter of BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanction)

Gee, I dunno. Could it be maybe that sanctions against Iran are stupid and punitive and counter-productive (i.e. they don’t work), same with Venezuela (though there’s nothing much symapthetic about Maduro)p while Israel is criminal terror state guilty to denying Palestinian national rights for decades. Not to mention Israel has been offered myriad chances to resolve its conflict and rejected every one. Neither Iran nor Maduro have been offered such compromise solutions.

  2. Outrageous.
I don’t understand why a person cannot call a spade a spade. I have seen both ‘apartheid’ and ‘fascism’ attached to the Israel government in different articles, online and news/media outlets.
Trying to silence those who speak out against crimes and injustice and targeting those brave enough to do so, proves that truth, not tyranny, will prevail.

  3. “The difference of course is that those Republicans expelled had committed serious infractions including supporting QAnon and insurrection and threatening to murder a fellow member (AOC herself).”

The difference gets lost, as well the hypocrisy. It’s infuriating but consistent with accusing the other side of what you are guilty. I hope Omar keeps on speaking out.

  4. I’m not sure the American public wants to Boycott and sanction Israel. By and large, Americans support Israel and might not be able to get their heads around sanctioning a longtime ally.

Would BDS sanctions be more effective than say, Iranian or Russian sanctions?
Are BDS sponsored sanctions really helping the Palestinian cause in the long run?

    1. @jay: It doesn’t matter what the American public “wants.” Attitudes change over times and adjust to circumstances. Americans opposed gay marriage, abortion rights and interracial marriage. Now support it. They will change around BDS as well as Israel’s crimes become more savage and clear.

Sanctions don’t have to strangle the Israeli economy. Combined with US refusal to fund the Israeli war machine, more decisive rejection of Israeli policies, and ICC conviction of Israeli political and military criminals, would be enough to force Israelis to realize the jig was up

It doesnt matter what you think about Palestinian strategy regarding their condition. THEY have devised their strategy and BDS as one part of it. That’s all that matters.
