UPDATE: The Mossad has assaulted Lebanon once again, exploding walkie talkies killing 13 and wounding an additional 300 victims.
Yesterday, the Mossad culminated a terror operation against Hezbollah by activating explosive charges hidden in pagers purchased and distributed by Hezbollah to its fighters.
The agency has leaked details of the operation via its go-to journalist, Ronen Bergman. He reports that the pagers were manufactured under the brand name, Gold Apollo. But the company’s CEO says his firm did not make the devices. Rather another company, BAC, did so under a licensing agreement. The latter is based in Hungary’s capital Budapest. It may be no coincidence that its quasi-dictator, Viktor Orban, is one of Israel’s closest European allies.
The corporate executive added that payments by BAC to Gold Apollo were routed via the Middle East. This could mean that BAC was a Mossad front company, created by the spy outfit for just this purpose. This would permit the Mossad to manufacture the pagers and insert the explosive charges inside them before shipment to Lebanon.
But how did Hezbollah decide to buy BAC pagers? In addressing this question, remember that Hamas is designated a terror organization by most states in which it would normally purchase such equipment. That would force it to resort to clandestine financing and purchasing deals. This may explain how it was trapped into dealing with such a mysterious corporate entity.
How did Mossad position itself as the seller? How did it insinuate itself into Hezbollah’s good graces and then seal the deal? Clearly, the Hezbollah purchasing agent made a monumental error in trusting the Mossad-linked BAC.
Because the Mossad knew the pagers were purchased by Hezbollah for use by its members, it could activate them en masse without fear (or so they believed) they would be attacking civilians. Though of course, the pagers could have been used by anyone once they arrived in Lebanon. Half of the dead were not Hezbollah operatives. Three of the victims were children.
The attack is arguably a war crime given that it is designed to instill terror in an entire civilian population:
It is the same genocidal approach that has killed 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza. Thus this new attack aimed at their “hometown” qualifies as a war crime, because the target goes beyond the fighters, down to their families and children. The images of the two murdered children among Tuesday’s victims, Fatima Abdallah and Mohammad Kanj, are the most dramatic proof of that.
Al-Monitor reports, likely based on Mossad sources, that the sabotage operation was exposed by two Hezbollah operatives who suspected their pagers had been compromised. The agency had prepared the attack as part of a coordinated strategy in the event of war against Hezbollah. Its discovery led to Israel activating it before war broke out. Instead of a calibrated sysops campaign, this attack was a one-off which drastically diminished its intended effect. Also, since it happened before the war, this gives the Lebanese militant group time to regroup. It can uncover weaknesses in its communication infrastructure and replace any fighters who may have been incapacitated by the explosions.
Further, if Israel had attacked during a war, this operation would have faded into the media background. Now, the entire world will look on aghast at yet another horrific Israeli “innovation” in modern technological warfare.
This is not the first time the Mossad has killed by electronic device. It assassinated Hamas’ bombmaker (aka The Engineer), Yahya Ayyash, with a bomb planted in his cell phone. But this is certainly the first time any country has conducted such a terror operation using electronic devices on a mass scale.
Israel is a global “leader” in developing clandestine weapons to wreak havoc on its enemies around the world. No one exerts any constraints on the devastation it wreaks. Every new weapon ratchets up the lethality quotient. While Israel reaps all the benefits, suffering none of the consequences. Not to mention its role in exporting such lethal technology to repressive regimes reflecting Israel’s genocidal “values.”
This should be a warning to electronic device manufacturers and retailers to carefully vet suppliers and inspect the products they produce and sell. Whatever protocols are currently employed should be reviewed and intensified. Licensing one’s name to an unvetted company as Gold Apollo did, is fraught with danger. Now it will pay the price in the marketplace. Though it didn’t manufacture the pagers, it allowed its name has been inextricably linked to this catastrophe.
Hezbollah announced the deaths of 12 operatives in the operation yesterday. Given these numbers, it seems highly unlikely that Hezbollah members were only half of those killed.
Doesn’t change the fact that 6 of the vics yesterday were either children or healthcare providers, not combatants.
Israeli airstrikes (which also account as direct attacks on Lebanon in addition to violations of Lebanese sovereignty though israeli flyovers, which by themselves are acts of military hostility) supposedly killed a few Hezbollah soldiers. So not all the combatant deaths that Hezbollah claims from yesterday are related to israel’s terror-bombing through the sabotage of electronic devices.

Israel has now weaponized batteries of all kind of “systems” as “approved” weapons. And what is unbelievable is that Israeli media and Israel supporters consider the move as genius move for Israel. @ Shmuel: Hezbollah attacked because Israel committed genocide against Gaza. It demanded the war end and Israel blew them off. Hezbollah and Hamas are allies. I would expect them to support each other against Israeli aggression. Not to mention, that Israel has offered Hezbollah numerous reaons to respond as it did. It has attacked Lebanon hundreds of times over the past decade or so, killing hundreds of Lebanese.
The Israeli strategy is to provoke a war against Hezbollah by attacking as it has. It figures if it kills enough Lebanese, Hezbollah will be forced to commence major hostilities. This will give Israel the excuse it needs to invade and occupy all of southern Lebanon, which is its ultimate goal.
