  1. I am clearly an outlier on this. I have not seen the film, but I have seen pictures of Gaza from early 2023 to the present day. To create that change in Gaza you don’t need AI or any digital techniques. You use old fashioned World War 2 carpet bombing at night. Israel has been doing that for three years dropping more than 40,000 tons of bombs. Maybe Israeli intelligence people dont know so they have to listen in on childrens phone calls to their parents, but most people, husbands wives and children, go home at night and if you want to kill as many people as possible including children and babies, bomb them at night. Use a paper map if necessary to determine where the homes are and just bomb. Flatten whole areas just to make sure you have got them all.

“UN cuts food aid to 500,000 Palestinians in Gaza”

No mention of the perpetrators … Zionism and Genocide by Israel on Palestinians in Gaza

  4. Today’s msm headline …

EU leaders have “strongly” condemned actions, policies, and rhetoric that “undermine the viability” of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

In which universe do the EU leaders in Brussels live? I find this truly shocking. Complicity in genocide.

  5. Thank you very much, Richard, for your insights into the film “Naza” and your reaction to it—very well written!
A good complement to this are the thoughts of a Palestinian who wanted to understand the perspective of those who killed over 40 of his relatives and—perhaps afterward—went out for a beer with friends: link to middleeasteye.net
Perhaps a word or two about the sparsely filled movie theaters: I think even the supporters of this genocide know how horrific it is—what has been done and continues to be done. I’d be afraid that these images would haunt me at night. When I read about the sadistic experiments conducted by Japan’s Unit 731, it haunted me for a long time. You’re a strong, courageous man—thanks again for sharing your impressions!

    1. Thanks a LOT for the link, Josh. Forwarded.

I read your piece just after I returned from seeing NAZA. My reaction differs somewhat from yours.

I agree with your hate of the Israeli system that brought the inhumane killing machine illustrated in NAZA into being. But I pity the 24 interviewees rather than hate them. I am reminded of Hannah Arendt’s concept of “banality of evil” to describe the Nazi inhumane killing machine being operated by unthinking people who were just doing their job in the machine.

That said, the 24 interviewees must have had some regret or awakening that prompted them to testify. I give them credit for that.

There were two bits of testamony that stand out in my mind as illustrative of the mind-set ofthe interviewees. One was the several interviewees who said they listened to the aftermath of a bombing. They recount they heard screaming and frantic searches fror children. That experience I would think would have triggered an awakening. Maybe it did, but not until their service was completed.
The other was the soldier who mentioned visiting Poland as a student and how he could not understand how the germans did the Holocaust, and how he hated the Nazi. He then said he now understands, but he still hates the Nazi. This partial awakening shows how deeply ingrained the hatred/fear of Palestinians is among young Israelis.

Also shocking is that the theater had fewer than 25% seats occupied. I thought wiyh all the media discussion and reviews, including in today’s LATimes, there would be more interest in the film.

    best jeff

    1. @Jeff: Yes, our theater was only about 1/3 full. It was disappointing. Though our theater was a local independent cinema. We have another run by the Seattle Film Festival. I imagine it would get a much larger crowd.

The sad thing about those 24 people is that they were not unthinking people. They were among the smartest, most gifted because all of them serve in Unit 8200, the most elite intelligence units in the IDF.If yo interviewed the avg Likud voter or the avg IDF grunt, then I’d agree that they would represent such banality.

As for their ability to feel remorse or guilt, I only felt that from one intervieweee, perhaps two. Everyone else either embraced their job with enthusiasm or expressed a few hestitations because they knew that was what Abraham was searching for in his questions. I felt nothing redeeming at all in any of them, excluding the one guy I mentioned.

What will be interesting is to see how many of them develop PTSD, or even worse, commit suicide (the IDF has a high rate of suicide and poor mental health support).

  7. link to dailymotion.com and this film about 1967 was made in 2015, the only thing different in the sadism, the racism, the lies and justifications is the type of weapons

  8. Comprehensive … excellent review and analysis … recommended. Harsh truth.

  9. As apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide are essential necessities for its mere existence as a Jewish state, Israel has forfeited its right to exist as a Jewish state.

    1. It has not been a jewish state for even a nano second
