Messianic settler extremists have begun a takeover of what they call the “Temple Mount” (Haram al Sharif). In the past, there have been restrictions imposed on them prohibiting prayer, dancing, singing or prostration within the Muslim holy precinct (the third holiest in Islam).
However, the current radical government now includes ministers who are Israeli Jewish terrorists. Itamar Ben Gvir, the police minister has been convicted scores of times of terrorist incitement. His colleague, Bezalel Smotrich, settlements minister, was once arrested with a bomb in his vehicle.
Ben Gvir is responsible for the police who patrol Haram al Sharif and purportedly supervise the settlers who make what they consider a pilgrimage to the site. In reality. after a pro forma warning from a cop, the settlers swarm the grounds and engage in precisely the activities they’ve just been warned against. The police are nowhere to be found. Of course, because they work for Ben Gvir.
The video above is a TV news segment which documents these activities, including interviews with Temple Mount activists who celebrate their new freedom to worship there and prepare for the destruction of Al Aqsa and the rebuilding of the Third Temple. I will be translating and captioning it soon. They believe that once the Temple has been rebuilt, the Messiah will come (no, not that Messiah!).
The tweet above features a separate video from an account: Temple Mount Activists. It shows the destruction of Al Aqsa via an Israeli bomb. The video has been edited to superimpose footage of an Israeli attack in Gaza over an image of Haram Al Sharif. The caption is a religious phrase referring to the rebuilding of the Temple: “Speedily and in our day.”
It is no accident that they chose the video of a Gaza bombing, since the settlers want what happened there to happen on Haram al Sharif: its utter elimination. Pulverizing it into oblivion. Once again, in order to rebuild the Temple the mosque and Muslim holy site must be destroyed so that the former can be rebuilt on its ruins.
The Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs published its own tweet warning against such Israeli provocations. But of course Israel and these settlers, who control the government and its policies, treat the PA as little more than an annoying gnat.
The program of the messianists isn’t a sudden dramatic takeover. Rather, it would proceed incrementally as has the Israeli settlements. In 1972, there were 1,000 settlers. In 1980, 17,000. In 1993, 270,000. In 2004, 450,000. In 2010, 500,000. In 2022, 750,000. Colonizing Palestinian lands is part of the imperative of reclaiming all of “the land of Israel.” Another necessity is the rebuilding of the Temple. If they take over the Biblical lands of Israel and rebuild the Temple, then according to their theological beliefs, the Jewish messiah will come.
The settlers understand that an immediate physical takeover would incite global outrage and mass violence by Palestinian Muslims and those outside Israel. So they will proceed in stages. Were it not for the foreign ostracism Israel would face, the messianists would welcome a final battle between Jew and Muslim. It would be that apocalyptic war foretold in the Bible between Gog and Magog. And with God on “our side,” they are confident of total victory and the advent of the messianic era.
The settlers have founded a “Temple Institute” which is preparing the Jewish religious protocols for the new holy site. They include animal sacrifices, naming of a High Priest and mass pilgrimages during holidays. They have even contracted with a cattle farmer in Texas who has produced an unblemished red heifer, which would be slaughtered during Temple rites.
Liberal Zionists are inclined to dismiss these activities as those of an extremist minority. Yet this is precisely how Jews in Israel and the Diaspora once viewed Meir Kahane. Now Kahanism is the law of the land and has taken over Israeli politics, government and virtually all public aspects of Israeli society.
Dismiss this at your peril. These are not fools. Nor are they rabid insignificant extremists. They are the government. They are Israel’s future.
This adds yet another reason why Jews must dissociate themselves from this genocidal, messianic state. It threatens to engulf the region in chaos and mass murder. It defiles Judaism and Jewish values. Any lingering nostalgia for an Israel that once was–that was the hope and dreams of Diaspora Jews–have now been dashed. We must banish the JNF pushkes, the Israeli shlichim, the Israel Day parades, the Jewish Agency, the Birthrights and aliyah programs. We must renounce and combat the the Lobby’s pernicious perversion of our democracy. We must save ourselves and our religion. Otherwise, we will become accessories to the crimes of these imposters claiming to represent us all.
Hi Richard,
Thank you for posting about this. This is obviously terrible but not surprising. Sadly, there are many Muslims (especially Muslim guys) that are so outraged by the Democratic Party that they are going to vote for Trump this November. They are captured by his anti-war posturing on the Russia-Ukraine war. They want to believe in him for some reason. They typically forget about the Abraham Accords or about the fact that his base includes many people that support videos like this. I also thought you should that I tried to share your video on Facebook but that it was blocked by the Facebook moderators.
FYI Facebook has prevented me from sharing this article !
I know. They generated a message saying if engaged in fraudulent behavior to get Likes. I didn’t. I appealed. But clearly their algorithm refuses to acknowledge Israeli terrorism.
awful !
As a Muslim I can speak for a number of other Muslims as well as a number of other people of good will; We are NOT planning to vote for Harris because of her less than tepid statements against the on-going genocide and we definitely will not be voting for Trump. Some of us will simply not vote in the presidential and congressional elections while some will vote for Jill Stein.
Harris will probably win, but she will win without our support because we do not wish to be complicit in the genocide.
