  1. find it laughable that the IDF is asking the PA for the time and location of the explosion. Israel has the best surveillance system in the Middle East. Doubtless it has video reconnaissance footage of the entire incident. With such resources, why the hell would it need the Palestinians to confirm what it already knows. It’s yet another insult to one’s intelligence.

    Perhaps a few facts would help bolster you writings. Rather then “laugh” so quickly, try
    looking deeper.. If you are “Doubtless” perhaps you are also arrogant and easily fooled. No one, not even the IDF has the capabilities of videoing and watching over the entire Gaza 24/7. If your intelligence if often insulted, maybe it is a very simple act. It is said the Arabs cleaned up the crime site, and removed all evidence including fragments of the leathal device. Did you laugh at that? Did that cause you any doubts, and perhaps insult your intelligence? Is it not concievable that an investigation takes time or do you already know what happened?

  2. No one, not even the IDF has the capabilities of videoing and watching over the entire Gaza 24/7.

    First, I very much doubt you are right. Gaza is not a large area. Israel doubtless does watch over much of it pretty vigilantly. But that wasn’t even my point. I wasn’t contending that Israel surveilled all of Gaza, only that it would’ve surveilled the target area it was shelling. If it wasn’t doing so it would’ve been quite lax in terms of intelligence. How can you tell whether you hit anything if you don’t surveill a target site?

    It is said the Arabs cleaned up the crime site, and removed all evidence including fragments of the leathal device.

    “It is said?” Who is this unnamed “it?” Of course, it is IDF sources quoting alleged Palestinian eyewitnesses who have of course not been produced to confirm their alleged statements. If you want to blame the Palestinians & the victims for their deaths you’ll have to do better than that I’m afraid.

    Ah, yes “investigations take time.” I’m sure the IDF will do a thorough investigation letting the chips fall where they may and letting no one guilty go unspared. I’m sure the only goal is to discover what really happened. I’m sure if someone in the IDF was responsible that the full weight of the law will fall on their shoulders. That’s the way it’ll go, right??

  3. You find it funny? That is the problem, there is nothing to even break a smile about. this is real life, and it is deadly serious. now for the subject matter; The last recorded strike by Israel was at 451 PM local time. The painter [Observer] made his last recorded observation at 458 PM local time. The incident happened at between 515 and 530 PM local time according to all witness accounts.

    In addition there are other factors to consider. that general vicinity has been the launching site for the bulk of Qassam attacks since the Gazan “Withdrawal/Disengagement.” As such that same spot of beach was the spot of an Israeli Sayeret operation 12 days before the incident. HAMAS, teh recipient of the unwanted attention publicly stated that they would shore up their vulnerability to seaward approaches. In other words, they stated that they would mine the approach.

    Had they done it? Witnesses report HAMAS rushing to the scene immediately after the explosion and feversihly picking up bits of the exploded ordnance. Could the beach goers inadvertantly made contact with a mine, either in the water or on shore? this leaves yet another possiblility to consider;

    What if the beach goers found an unexploded piece of Israeli ordnance? far fetched? Two Israeli Bedua found an unexploded Qassam near Nachal Oz in the Negev. Thinking it just another piece of military scrap [the Negev is littered with it], they attempted to salvage it. the father and son team inadvertantly set off the Qassam and were killed [this past March].

    The point of course is that noone here truly knows what took place. Israel has correctly asked all those concerned to exercise rational patience and await a swift investigation before jumping to high handed conclusions. Is that so nefarious?

  4. Rachamim: Your comment is filled with unproven, unverified (IDF-provided) information:

    The last recorded strike by Israel was at 451 PM local time. The painter [Observer] made his last recorded observation at 458 PM local time. The incident happened at between 515 and 530 PM local time according to all witness accounts.

    The times you provide for the Israeli strikes are all provided by the IDF and unverified by physical evidence.

    HAMAS…publicly stated that they would shore up their vulnerability to seaward approaches. In other words, they stated that they would mine the approach.

    Please provide any evidence of an actual statement by Hamas saying they intended to mine Gaza beaches.

    Witnesses report HAMAS rushing to the scene immediately after the explosion and feversihly picking up bits of the exploded ordnance. Could the beach goers inadvertantly made contact with a mine, either in the water or on shore? this leaves yet another possiblility to consider;

    Again, the alleged “witnesses” and alleged Hamas operatives swarming the beach are based on an IDF claim of what happened. I have read no actual statements from the alleged witnesses nor seen any video evidence of Hamasniks swarming the beach picking up ordnance. If you have evidence to support this please let us know what it is. Martian aliens might have landed from outer space and set off the explosions I suppose.

    Israel has correctly asked all those concerned to exercise rational patience and await a swift investigation

    You’re a little behind the times I’m afraid. The “swift investigation” has already been concluded in lighting speed and–wonder of wonders–the IDF has exonerated itself of any blame. Now you & the IDF gunners who might’ve rained down those shells on Gaza can sleep well in your beds knowing all’s well with the world & Israel has been spared any blemish on its record. The rest of us know differently & will continue lobbying for a different approach to this conflict from both the Israelis & Palestinians.

    BTW, if you truly wish the truth to come out regarding this incident (as I do), you might suggest to the Defense Ministry that it appoint an independent external inquiry to examine the affair. Until Israel does this, no one except you will accept its version of events. I am perfectly willing to accept that the incident might’ve have been caused either by a Palestinian mine or the accidental explosion of an Israeli dud if that scenario could be proven incontrovertibly by indpendent experts. But I will not accept the so called “evidence” presented by the IDF so far to bolster its claim.

    In addition, you don’t seem to know that a former Pentagon bomb damage expert examined the beach a few hrs. after the explosion and found shrapnel marked ‘155m’ which lay precisely where the accident occurred. The Israeli howitzers firing on that area were 155m. He concludes that there is almost no likelihood that the IDF conclusions are credible based on his investigation of the actual physical site (which the IDF did not itself manage). If Hamas operatives swarmed the beach removing evidence, then how did he manage to find such evidence on the beach? How do you explain his findings?
