Brian Klug sent me today Independent Jewish Voices‘ ad published in yesterday’s Times of London protesting the siege of Gaza and the Qassam attacks on Israeli targets. The ad read:
The siege of Gaza is causing devastating social and economic consequences and threatens a humanitarian catastrophe…The collective punishment of the people of Gaza is illegal under international law. We condemn all attacks on civilians, including the rocket attacks on the people of southern Israel.
We call upon the Israeli government to lift the blockade of Gaza, for both sides to observe a ceasefire as a first step toward a just, comprehensive settlement, and for the international community to bring the isolation of Gaza to an end.
We need to do something similar for the American media. Anyone willing to join me?
It lifts my heart to see that notice in the Times of London.
Surely there are enough people in this country that could put a similar ad in the NYTimes. I’m sure it costs a bunch (thousands?) but if we got -for example –
Chomsky and his people, and Khalidi and his people, and all the Progressive Jewish bloggers that you know, and I would announce it to the groups I’m on (just a few).
The US Campaign would take part, the Presbyterian church, Jewish Voice for peace..
If it were really going to happen, I would take it Pacifica radio and have them announce it, perhaps you (or someone) would get on Pacifica radio and talk about it.
It would serve as a great talking point.
Have you raised it around the bloggers you know to see if there is interest?
I have interest and I would contribute ideas as to who to engage in the effort, but it would need someone to be the initiator, to run with it and make it work.
Unfortunately, that person is not me. You?

I would.
Me and the power of my readership – all 50 to a 100 of them.
Quake in fear, CNN. Cower, FOX News…
Was supposed to be cower.
The comment lost all of its acidic humor barb…
I am now up to 100+ per day – hooray…
Been a slow week for some reason.
