The Gees Bend Quilters Collective plans to offer their quilts for sale to the public via the internet. Their latest available quilts are on view at the link above. I especially love this site and these quilts because the photographs are so real compared to the slick “artistic” retouched reality so often displayed in the art world. In these photographs, you see clips holding the quilts to clotheslines. You see human hands holding up quilts for display to the camera. You see the quilts in a more natural environment, ungussied by professional photographers or artistic packagers. These are some of the finest quilts made in the U.S. and they’re being made by real, hard-working people in America’s heartland.
Here, I’ve picked a few of the quilt designs I like the most to give my readers a taste of what these magnificent quilters are doing.
