    Didn’t LBJ skip the 1968 convention? Not the most reassuring precedent for the Republicans, of course.

  2. @William Burns: Could be. I can’t remember him speaking there & clearly Humphrey was running as far as he could away from LBJ (though he ran right into the arms of William Daley, who really fixed his wagon) at the time.
