BREAKING: Israeli Anti-Government Activist’s Alleged Suicide Plot Against Netanyahu

Israeli peace activist, Tamar Gershoni, age 73, was arrested by the Shin Bet this week for allegedly plotting a suicde attack on Bibi Netanyahu.  Though the arrest was reported in Israeli media, there is a gag order on reporting her name. An Israeli source identified her and I confirmed this and report it here.  Her name has been reported by Israelis on social media, where she’s been labeled a dangerous “terrorist.”

Gershoni has been both a peace and anti-government activist for many years.  She is a retired IT medical consultant, who also published a blog which offered analysis and criticism of the Israeli judicial coup and security policy. But all its content has been wiped clean.  There is one capture listed for the Wayback Machine on July 14th. But the archived version of the site is not accessible.

My source told me that her son is a senior executive at Israel Aerospace Industries. Though I have not found him in any online searches. IAI engages in top-secret research, production and launch of spy satellites used to surveil Israeli enemies in Iran, Lebanon, Syria and Gaza (among others).

Tamar Gershoni is terminally ill and prepared to give her life in her plot against Netanyahu. She reportedly contacted a fellow activist, Gonen Ben Yitzhak, about her plot to use a rocket propelled grenade to kill Netanyahu.  Ben Yitzhak, who is a former Shin Bet officer, “ran” the Hamas “Green Prince,” Mosab Yousef, son of one of the movement’s top leaders. Later he abandoned Islam and converted to Christianity. That lent him credibility on the pro-Israel speaker circuit-gravy train, where he became a sought-after celebrity. Ben Yitzhak joined Yousef in filming a documentary about their relationship.

Ben Yitzhak reported her to police who arrested her.  To commit an act leading to the disruption of the life of a woman with weeks or months to live; including the heartache of her immediate family, seems beyond cruel. She is now under house arrest, which indicates the Shin Bet believes believes she poses little danger of carrying out her plot.

State prosecutors however deem her a clear and present danger to the state: “There is a real concern that she will attempt to carry out her plan against the prime minister or another government official,” prosecutors argued, citing a high level of danger. The woman is close to death. Her plot failed.  What possible danger can she pose to anyone, let alone Netanyahu?

There are few leaders whose death I would welcome.  The only reason I don’t feel this way about Netanyahu is that the Likud toadie who replaces him would be no better, and possibly worse. An Israeli assassination which more than achieved its goal was the murder of Yitzhak Rabin, that led to 30 years of fascist rule in Israel, half of them under Netanyahu.  Remember the old saying: be careful what you wish for…

Further, the fascists governing Israel will have a field day with this development.  It permits them to pose as martyrs in the public eye: under threat from the nefarious criminal conspiracies of the anti-government protest movement.  What Israel doesn’t need is Judeo-Nazis posing as victims of a coup plot by “Hamas lovers.”

In a year there will be elections. That is an opportunity to unseat Netanyahu. If it succeeds, he would likely be replaced by Naftali Bennett. Though he maintains similar right wing politics, when he served as prime minister for a year, he at least governed with a reasonable level of pragmatism.  I’m relatively certain, for example, he would not have pursued the current catastrophic campaign in Gaza. He is unfortunately, the best one could hope for in the sorry state of Israeli politics.  Israel could get a lot worse (and might yet).
