H/t to Shibley Telhami for this wonderful summary of the idol worship that pervaded Saudi Arabia during Trump’s recent foray into the heart of darkness there. Here he’s worshipped as the Kaaba, a substitute for Islam’s holiest site located in Mecca. This is the ground where millions of Muslims congregate during hajj to attest to their faith. Except in this cartoon, the corrupt generals, dictators, and pashas circle around a huge monument to Donald Trump.
Our European allies noted the extravagant reception he received in the Saudi kingdom and compared it highly unfavorably to Trump’s reception in Europe. There leaders couldn’t get far enough away from him as he insulted everyone. Most notably, Angela Merkel, who essentially deep-sixed a 70-year alliance between the U.S. and Germany. Who is happiest with this self-destruction? Russia off course, whose intelligence agencies have sought throughout this period to drive a wedge between us. It makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
And who has Trump offered to replace these tried and true European allies? Corrupt Egyptian generals like al-Sisi, a kleptocratic monarchy like the Saudis, and a bunch of paranoid potentates in the Gulf States. Not a fair trade.
This sort of cartoon, making fun of Islam holiest might cause riots and shouldn’t be promoted by anyone.

I think the Saudis know who he is with his megalomania etc and played him. Thus they got what they wanted and possibly by default SA will serve as a sort of ‘wall’ between Israel and Iran.
Iran wants the Ka’abah since it considers Sunnis to be infidels and also ME hegemony and the revelation of the12th Imam even if it has to by apocalyptic.
