WorldPress.org carries a fascinating story about a new Israeli-Palestinian radio station based in East Jerusalem: Radio Kol Ha-Shalom or Radio All for Peace (hear it’s audio stream here).
It offers a heady mix of incisive public affairs programming and unusual music. One of my criticisms of even the best Israel radio is that the music is derivative. You’ve heard most of it before. And often long before–like decades before. If you want to hear new and challenging sounds you don’t hear them that often there.
But All for Peace is different. So far tonight, I’ve heard an evocative song by a Palestinian female vocalist, a cover of a Sting song by a performer that might’ve been Mercedes Sosa. Last night, I heard an Israeli woman interview an Israeli feminist about how Israeli women celebrate Yom Ha-Atzmaut. Great stuff.
Give a listen to All for Peace.
