In the February 1st New York Times, Maureen Dowd’s The Mirror has Two Faces criticizes Condoleeza Rice and the entire Bush intelligence apparatus. The triumphal skewer comes from a “former Bush official” (wouldn’t it be delightful to speculate on which disaffected former staffer it could be??): “Most intelligence failures are about missing something happening. What’s so bizarre about this is they thought something was happening that wasn’t. This is right up there with Pearl Harbor and Bay of Pigs.”
