    Diskin’s recommendation was carried out: the civic institutions of Gaza were the primary targets of OCL. Perhaps HAMAS is more effective in supplying the needs of the inhabitants than is desired by Israel’s leaders.

    The powers that be appear to want the land ‘cleared’. No surprise when one considers the history of the British Empire, where this was overt policy in Ireland during the 19th century, as well as in the 16th century, when most of the English common land was ‘enclosed,’ in many situations to create parks for the aristocracy.
