  1. The Saudis should close their airspace to the Israelis and say that in any future exchange of missiles between Israel and Iran they will remain neutral.

  2. It remains incomprehensible to me that Europe and North America, the first countries to organize against Genocide with a treaty (“Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide”) are STILL supporting genocide by trade and by providing the means for the Genocide, standing behind Israel and attacking protesters. Even more baffling is the stark fact that Israel, a nation built on the memory of the Shoah, are themselves so gleefully committing a Shoah.
It seems that the same people who are horrified by Holocaust denial, are themselves in denial of Israel’s genocide.

Uniting for Peace in Gaza: A Test for the General Assembly | OpinioJuris |

In this contribution, I argue that each of the six proposals by the UN experts is compatible with the UN Charter (see Articles 10-14) and the practice of the General Assembly. As the International Court of Justice has ruled in the Certain Expenses —financing of ENEF and ONUC 20 July 1962– (p 163) the Security Council has the primary but not exclusive responsibility to maintain international peace and security. Over time, the Assembly has adopted numerous resolutions [https://brill.com/view/journals/joup/25/4/article-p305_001.xml?language=en&srsltid=AfmBOorCWhNdQhzVLOM9vzYcGu3TonbB7sfmrEjTUJC4ovXDCfSdvBTX] that have helped clarify its powers and responsibility on issues of peace, decolonization, and the fight against apartheid, among others. Its actions have been significant especially when the Security Council has failed to discharge its tasks under the Charter.

The paralysis of the Security Council during the Korean War led to the adoption of General Assembly Resolution 377(V) [https://docs.un.org/en/A/RES/377(V)] in November 1950, known as Uniting for Peace</b. The resolution declared that if the Council failed to discharge its responsibility because of a lack of unanimity among its permanent members, the Assembly could convene an “emergency special session” and recommend collective measures, including “the use of armed force when necessary”. Since then, emergency special sessions under Uniting for Peace have been convened a dozen times, most recently in 2022 regarding the war in Ukraine.

  4. Not sure why you are so hopeful towards the Democratic Party and the future Democratic President, considering that the Dems have done literally NOTHING to stop the genocide.
P.S.: I am not a Republican and I am not even American.

    1. Ismaele, One can only hope that the Democratic Party and a future Democratic president and congress will come out against unconditional support for Israel. A growing number of Democrats and even a couple of Republicans in congress, are voting against military aid for Israel. Note that a recent poll shows only 32% of the American people and only 8% of Democrats support this bad policy. There is growing pressure among the public for changing this.

    2. @Ismaele: I may be “hopeful” about the Democratic Party. But that doesn’t mean I’m not skeptical of its motives. I think a time will come when a Democratic president will declare the US an independent party when it comes to Israel. Not holding my breath, but hopeful.
