God, I know. I’m terribly late to be telling you about Jonah’s Halloween costume since the holiday was six weeks ago. What can I say?
But my wife and I were so jazzed by the inventiveness of Jonah’s costume I just had to feature it here. He decided he was going to be a diver in a fish tank. Now, pretend you didn’t see the accompanying image (as we hadn’t when he first told us this idea). Don’t tell me you’re not saying to yourself: “How in hell is he going to pull that off?” But by God, the image and idea was planted there in his brain and he figured out how to bring his image to life. The result was easily the most innovative costume I saw that day.
Where do these ideas come from? I don’t know and I don’t care as long as he keeps getting them. The kid is an artist. I don’t know where all this will take him. But he has a gift and we hope to nurture it as best we can.
Come to think of it, his original idea for this might have come from seeing the divers in the Seattle Aquarium’s enormous fish tank, who do hourly shows for children. But I don’t know for sure.
