I’d skipped right over this passage from Haaretz describing a commando raid on Baalbeck, but Anarchristian at Blogging the Middle East pointed out the utter inanity of it:
The IDF reportedly captured five junior Hezbollah militants and killed several others before completing the operation and safely returning to Israel.
It brought to mind those old FBI TV shows from the 50s and 60s which tried to enlist the kiddie viewers to hunt for criminals and Commie infiltrators. It called the young viewers “junior G-men.” What exactly IS a “junior Hezbollah militant?” A pimply teenager carrying an AK-47? The guy who brings Nasrallah his Turkish coffee in the morning?
Forgive me for making light of a serious situation but…the IDF has got to be kidding. These operations sound more like Inspector Clouseau than the vaunted IDF.
The Mounties May Always Get Their Man, But the IDF…
The raid was intended to capture another Hezbollah “senior commander” who appears to have slipped the net:
The sources said that the raid aimed to capture senior Hezbollah man Mohammed Yazbek, who was reportedly being treated at the Dar al-Hikma hospital in the town.
