The Man in Black is gone.
There isn’t much more that I can say that hasn’t already been eloquently said in Stephen Holden’s obituary in the New York Times,Johnny Cash, Country Music Bedrock, Dies at 71.
If you are a fan or if you’re merely intrigued by his music, I commend to you an extraordinary 1998 TNT special, An All-Star Tribute to Johnny Cash. I bought it at either half.com or ebay this past year, but I couldn’t find a single copy on sale today–not even listed in a keyword search. So I don’t know what’s going on here. But this show has a magnificent musical cast which performed truly extraordinary covers of Cash hits. The cast includes Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, U2, Cheryl Crow and many others. This is a must have video.
I contacted TNT.com about airing the program again and their response was that contractural agreements prevent its reairing or sale in video format. I’d like to give viewers an opportunity to see this wonderful concert. If you know how to purchase the video online let me know.
