On today’s This American Life episode, Kid Logic, a woman tells a story about a young girl taking her first plane ride (though she had been to the airport often to welcome arriving family or say farewell to departing family). As the plane ascends into the air she says to her mother: “Why aren’t we getting smaller?”

That post made me remember something from my childhood that hasn’t crossed my mind in years.
When I was 3, my mother flew from my hometown in Muncie, IN, to Chicago on business. As we were watching the plane she was on fly away, my dad kept telling my brother and me,”Look, Mommy’s getting smaller!” Lucky for us, he said it enthusiastically, so I wasn’t as horrified seeing my mom shrink into nonexistence as I could have been. I was of course surprised a few days later when I saw my mom come through the doorway full-sized.
Anyway, brought back a lot of memories.
I’ve enjoyed reading your blog immensely!
