    hi there!

i’m a keen sci-fi artist/mind explorer and this morning i woke up thinking ”i must find out more about golems”…………i’m a huge fan of the 1920 film , and wondered what truth (emet!) it was based on and are there any other golem myths? well , i found your blog to be most informative , i’ve now decided to adopt the golem as my totem animal , and i was also very interested to see how you transposed the metaphorical golem over the current state of israel and the idf – strive for truth and justice – but don’t go running amok!

    thanks for the info blast!

    boo.

  2. I’m glad you found this post informative. I devoted a lot of attention to writing it & welcome your response.

If I were to hazard a guess as to what specifically emet (“truth”) refers to on the Golem’s forehead, I’d say it might be a response to the Christian blood libel accusations. In other words, the blood libel charge is a lie and the Golem is sent to defend the Jews and thus disprove the lie. So in this sense, the Golem represents the Jewish people as it would wish to be seen by non-Jews; and not as butchers of Chrisitian babies, which is the lie that Christians promote about Jews.
