Apparently, a History forum thread I created has been banned because I added a link to a post I wrote in my blog about the historical event which was the subject of both the blog post & my post to the History forum.

I just reviewed the rules & see that no links are allowed to either commercial or non-commercial sites unless an exception is made by the moderator/administrator. I can see the logic of prohibiting promotion of commercial sites. But my site is completely non commercial & non profit. The post in question is a piece of historical research about an important historical event. I find it ludicrous that this link & the entire thread would be banned for this infraction.

If your reply to me is that this is the way the forum operates, then I guess this will be my last communication with you or your forum. If an exception might be made in my case to allow the thread to survive with the link intact, then I'd be grateful for that.

Pls. inform me of yr. decision.

No exception will be granted to you, and it's a little late for your concern with complying with the rules.

Regardless of whether or not you think it appropriate we do not allow posting of one's own URLs. Some of the most zealous spammers of our boards are not commercial sites but other varying personal interests.

This is, in fact, the standard we maintain, and we have found that we typically only lose persons whose only interest in this website is to use it as a vehicle to solicit visitors.

We do not have a problem with losing such members as we are disinterested in serving as such a vehicle in the first place.

See, if you really want to discuss history you can posts your texts, if however your interest is in getting visitors then there is incompatibility with the rules.

The rules do not hamper the discussion you were pursuing, just the invitation for visits. If your emphasis was on the latter the measures were obviously vindicated.
Sincerely,

The Support Team at www.able2know.com

Hey thanks for the smarmy & condescending response. I AM interested in
discussing history. But my original text was prob. 1,000 words long or
more. Would that be welcome in yr. forum? That's why I condensed my post
within the msg. on yr. forum & provided a link to anyone wishing to read a
longer version.

And you know if you'd merely suggested that I post my entire blog post in
the forum I might've done that. But you added a lot of dismissive verbiage
in which you clairvoyantly (somehow) read my motives & deemed them violative
of your rules. Too bad you couldn't have provided me a constructive
suggestion w/o the attitude.

But, gee, you've already decided that I'm someone shilling for myself &
dismissed me as a legitimate member of yr. community. Boohoo, I'm not
wanted!

Oh, & when you remove a thread wouldn't it be helpful & kind to explain to
the original poster why you did it instead of waiting for him to ask & then
telling him to take a hike?

No, it was insulting & unnecessarily so. I hope the rest of yr. staff can manage to be more civil to your forum members than this one was.
