In a presidential briefing last month, Pres. Biden’s national security advisor, Jake Sullivan argued that the US should attack Iran’s nuclear facilities:
…Some of Biden’s aides, including Sullivan, think that the degrading of Iran’s air defenses and missile capabilities, along with the significant weakening of Iran’s regional proxies, would improve the odds of a successful strike and decrease the risk of Iranian retaliation and regional escalation.
Pretty fucking diabolical, wouldn’t you say? The oeprative sentiment seems to be: kill it before it multiplies. Kill it while we can.
In the very next paragraph, the article states “Sullivan did not make any recommendation to Biden on the issue.” You can’t have it both ways. If Sullivan believes what’s attributed to him in the above paragraph and conveyed that to the president, he’s saying in effect: the odds are in favor if we do it now.
This is a dangerous game they’re playing. Biden has already been outplayed by Israel in the region since 10/7. While Israel has created a dumpster fire virtually everywhere it strikes, the US has stood by and done nothing to stop it. On the contrary, it has poured gasoline on the fire. Just today, the State Department and its boss with a heart of gold, Tony Blinken, announced another $8-billion in missiles and bullets for Bibi’s butchers:
The sale includes medium-range air-to-air missiles to help Israel defend against airborne threats, 155 mm projectile artillery shells for long-range targeting, Hellfire AGM-114 missiles, 500-pound bombs and more.
Remember when Tony said how much it hurt his heart to see all those starving Palestinian babies? And that he was doing everything he possibly could to ensure they had something to eat. Yeah, that’s the guy who’s loading those IDF Tavor rifles with bullets and F-35 bomb bays with US-made bunker busters.
Added to the current military aid, this brings the total to $26-billion for the state which committed genocide in Gaza, Lebanon, and itches to do the same to Tehran. We’re giving the butcher axes and knives to kill the calves.
This is but a drop in the bucket for Israel, whose 2024 military spending was $118-billion, a 30% increase over 2023. Nor does that include the Mossad or Shin Bet, which fall outside the IDF’s funding. Nevertheless, our little contribution is nearly a quater of Israel’s entire military budget. We are generous aren’t we?
This is the most morally repugnant line offered by the White House to defend this travesty:
“The President has made clear Israel has a right to defend its citizens, consistent with international law and international humanitarian law, and to deter aggression from Iran and its proxy organizations. We will continue to provide the capabilities necessary for Israel’s defense,” a U.S. official said.
How is providing Israel bunker buster bombs “defending its citizens?” Why would any Israeli need a bunker buster to defend him or herself? As for ‘acting consistently with international and humanitarian law’: how does genocide and starvation fall into those categories? Finally, if we want to talk about Iranian “aggression,” just how many Israelis has Iran killed since 1979? I haven’t researched this, but I’m pretty sure the ansswer is somewhere near zero. How many Iranians has Israel killed? To hear former Mossad chief, Tamir Pardo, it’s likely in the hundreds, if not more: nuclear scientists, IRG commanders, airliners, missile bases, nuclear facilities. All attacked by Israel, which faced no direct threat from any of them. Whatever threat they did offer was in defense of their own homeland.
Remember, for example that missile barrage Iran launched against Israel? “Aggression?” Not really. Israel had bombed an Iranian diplomatic building in Iran and killed a senior IRG commander.
If the US did attack Iran, how could they be construed as self-defense? Even if Iran went full-throttle for a nuclear weapon, how would it be much different than any other country that has them? North Korea, Pakistan, China, Russia: you mean to tell me an Iranian nuke is more dangerous than anything those countries possess?
I’m just so sick and tired of the sophistry falling from the lips of these liars. They lie like they breathe.
Of course, Trump lies and will probably do even more damage than Biden. But the difference is that we thought Biden was better. We believed that he had a shred more humanity and decency than Trump or any Republican. But we were wrong. And that is a cruel betrayal to absorb.
So Sullivan wants to attack Iran? Why not make it a twofer and have the IAF fly wing-man for our own USAF F-35s on this mission? After the dust settles, Bibi and Biden can fly to Tehran and raise the stars and stripes alongside the blue and white for a photo op.
That would be the crowning achievement of Biden’s presidency: to ignite a regional war just as he leaves office. What a way to burnish his legacy! The president who presided over a genocide and then led the Middle East into yet another catastrophe.
Sullivan’s briefing comes in the aftermath of Israel’s decimation of Iran’s regional allies: Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Assad regime. Many of us have argued that Israeli attacks (met with approval by the US and other European states) would motivate Iran to cross the nuclear threshhold and create a Samson-like weapon to ensure the survival of the Islamic Republic. Until now, Iran has not done so. Doubtless because it fears precisely the response urged by Biden’s national security team.
Israel let loose the Dogs of War and slaughtered its enemies since 10/7. Now Jake Sullivan thinks the US can work its own magic over the skies of Iran. I have news for him: whatever they do, it will not be enough. Hamas will be back. Hezbollah will be back. Iran, if attacked will be back. All they will have done is mow the lawn. And after you mow a lawn, the weeds grow back with a vengeance.
The US is not alone … has sufficient backing in NATO, specifically the UK – France – Germany

The German government has quietly cut funding for Zochrot and New Profile, following an earlier defunding of Palestinian NGOs.
You hit it on the head! Netanyahu wants to clear any obstacles to his idea of “Greater Israel”.
What has changed since your writing on 15 Dec 2024 or August 2012 ?
Indeed … Bibi Netanyahu promised next time he would return filled with a war cabinet of loyalists or more hawkish than he himself is … thanks to President Barack Obama the attack on Iran’s nuclear research was aborted.

IMO Bibi will pass on Joe’s shortsightedness and wait on saviour Trump who had promised to destroy Iranian cultural sites … much more to the likening of Bibi and Kahane embodiment of terror.
