  1. It’s oft said that ‘Blessed are the peacemakers’, but when the Israeli Head of State flies to Moscow to try and do just that, make peace and save lives, he’s reviled by Richard.

Hey Richard, are you sponsoring any Ukrainian refugees? Will you bring a Ukrainian family to Seattle and house and feed them?

    crickets

  2. Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine four weeks ago, many Israelis have alternately protested the aggression and were aghast as their leaders remained mute.

False. Most Israelis are aghast that the United States and NATO are not adequately responding to Putin’s war of choice.

Most Israelis understand the danger of antagonizing a wounded bear who’s on your next-door neighbor’s property.

Most Israelis understand that Bennett’s neutrality is also connected to his role as a mediator in this war.

    1. @ Shelly:

Most Israelis are aghast that the United States and NATO are not adequately responding to Putin’s war of choice.

Anyone who tells me that ‘most Israelis’ agree with his hasbara version of reality, is not credible. Especially when not offering any proof of his claims. And even if your claim is true (it isn’t) it would be the height of hypocrisy for Israelis to complain about other countries not doing enough to arm Ukraine when: 1) they ARE doing precisely that; and 2) Israel is refusing to arm Ukraine even when begged to do so.

Most Israelis understand the danger of antagonizing a wounded bear

Most Israelis actually are aghast at the two-facedness of Israeli policy. They’re not thinking about making Putin mad. “Many Israelis” are thinking about some of their relatives quaking in destroyed buildings as missiles fly overhead.

Bennett’s “neutrality” is cynical and not based on any other consideration. Nor does either party find his mediation efforts credible. Certainly not the Ukrainians. I doubt if Putin gives a shit what Bennett does. Bennett is little more than a friendly poodle to the Dictator.

      1. Richard says”

I doubt if Putin gives a shit what Bennett does. Bennett is little more than a friendly poodle to the Dictator.”

‘Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the conflict in Ukraine by telephone with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Wednesday, the Kremlin said in a statement’.

‘In a phone call between the two, Bennett “shared his assessment of the situation around Ukraine, taking into account his contacts with leaders of a number of foreign countries, and expressed several ideas in relation to the ongoing negotiations,” the statement said.’

Sorry, Dawg. Putin does give a shit about Bennett and Bennett is nobody’s poodle.

        1. @ Stoney: I don’t care if Putin gives Bennett a backrub, he still doesn’t give a shit about Bennett.

As for Bennett speaking to Putin: why do you think Bennett is perhaps the only foreign leader Putin has spoken to since the invasion began? Because of course it makes Putin look good to have any foreign leader speaking to him. So again, Bennett is a prop for Putin. Not a real leader to be treated as an equal. As I wrote, Bennett is an errand boy.

Bennett “expressed several ideas?” Really? What were they? One idea was “get Ukraine to surrender.” Another maybe was “I sincerely apologize to you, Vlad, for letting that Nazi Zelensky speak to MKs.”

Bennett is pure-bred poodle. Putin’s Poodle. Has a nice ring to it and fits Bennett like a doggie vest.

I’m not a “dawg” and don’t ever address me that way again. No more comments in this thread.

  3. Excellent essay:

is it a Jewish state, by and for Jews alone as its far-right Orthodox-dominated government asserts? Or is it a state like any other, pursuing its own objectives based on purely utilitarian motives?

Israel’s exceptionalism consists of having it both ways, as you say. Also it seems, what with it’s military and undeclared nukes (that Iran wants to counter) Israel seems to be seeking junior membership in Global Hegemons, cozying up to “big machers” globally as Russia puffs itself up to be what with it’s enormous nuke supply ( without which what is Russia?). Israel, so compromised, has been breaking international law, so it can hardly complain when Russia does.

  4. Bombing hizbollah in syria is way way more important than penny less Jews in Ukraine as though war is about to break out tomorrow between israel and hiz. Further not selling pegasus to Ukraine sspeaks the truth about israel.
