  1. Why would ANYONE BE SURPRISED at this revelation? Has no one been reading the reports from those of us who are internationals, including Jews, who have been body and cavity searched? Here is one report from the venerable Hedy Epstein.

“In her article “Do Not Stand Idly By,” Hedy Epstein, an 85-year-old Holocaust survivor, writes of her stay with a family in Ramallah. “A year earlier, their then 11-year-old son had been playing in his front yard when he was attacked and beaten by several Israeli soldiers,” she writes. “He was so traumatized that he could not yet sleep in his own bed a year later.” On her way out of the country, she is strip-searched by a security guard: “I demanded she change her gloves, which she’d been wearing since she began the process, but she replied: ‘They are clean.’ ‘No, they are not clean,’ I told her. ‘You patted me down with them on, and my clothes are not clean.’ After a few more minutes of argument, she finally took off her gloves, threw them in a corner, and put on new ones. She then performed a cavity search, both vaginally and rectally.””

    1. Not the least surprised…not even by the Nurnberg defence of just obeying orders.
Richard writes “Ever the good German, the good doctor argues that the victim should consider herself lucky that an educated, civilized person raped her. ”
That seems a racist observation. Why not ever the good soldier, Zionist, Israeli, or even Jew?
Good Germans fought fascism. Don’t swallow all the ‘victor’s histories’.

  2. The Israeli Justice Ministry investigated this matter thoroughly, which is a positive development.

It seems to me, that the woman prisoner was working with Hamas.
The Haaretz article you linked describes the prisoner as a “..young woman who had ties with Hamas”, which sounds definitive, not to mention the fact that her SIM card was found in her bedroom, and not in her phone, where most people keep their SIMs.
Apparently, the woman was hiding the fact that the SIM was in her bedroom.

Invasive strip searches of inmates is necessary in order to prevent the weapons or contraband, including cell phones and SIMS, from entering prisons.

Invasive strip searches of unsentenced criminal suspects is another matter entirely.

Greta’s story about 80 y.o. Hedy Epstein’s strip search is very disturbing.

I’ve never heard before of any airline passenger being subject to a full body cavity search.
    Not even suspected drug smugglers.

    1. @ Veni Vidi Victor:

The Israeli Justice Ministry investigated this matter thoroughly

Your response is dismal. The justice ministry investigated the case only after a senior prosecutor demanded that it do so against the opposition of many in the AG’s office. The article makes clear that after this senior prosecutor lost her bid to become state prosecutor, the case fizzled. The individual who did get the job stalled the case and was responsible for dropping it entirely. Why do you leave out all of this which is clearly stated in the Haaretz article? Do you think you won’t be caught out in your distortion of fact?

It seems to me, that the woman prisoner was working with Hamas.

It “Seems to you?” And on what basis does it seem to you? The article states that she was associated with Hamas without offering any proof whatsoever that she was. She was arrested twice and neither time were any serious charges brought against her for any actual offense other than purportedly being associated with Hamas. Which could mean anything or nothing. Once again, do you think you can get away with such unsupported claims?

her SIM card was found in her bedroom, and not in her phone, where most people keep their SIMs.

Her SIM card was found in her bedroom rather than her phone and this qualifies her as a Hamas terrorist? I’ll tell you what. If I were Palestinian I wouldn’t keep my SIM card in my phone either except when using it for precisely the reason she may have done so: protecting her privacy from snoops. Not just Israeli police, but perhaps her own family.

Invasive strip searches of inmates is necessary in order to prevent the weapons or contraband, including cell phones and SIMS, from entering prisons.

Once again I call bullshit: she wasn’t going to prison. She wasn’t smuggling anything into a prison. They wanted her SIM card, not drugs or guns or anything else. Nor did they even suspect that the SIM card would contain anything of value (which it clearly didn’t after they found it).

      1. What I said was, ‘Invasive strip searches of unsentenced criminal suspects is another matter entirely.’

The invasive strip search of the woman was wrong, for many reasons, including the fact that SIM cards contain gold wiring easily detected by a hand held metal detector. So why a cavity probe?

As far as Hedy Epstein’s claims, I find it hard to fathom why an eighty-year old woman departing Israel would ‘internally probed’.

I was also strip searched at BGA, the same year that Hedy suffered her ordeal.
I was strip searched along with an Arab family and some Africans. None of us were ‘internally probed’, so I have to wonder why eighty-year old Hedy Epstein was singled out.

As hard as the transcripts are to read, the recorded questions and answers suggest a thorough investigation, albeit one with an unsatisfactory conclusion.

        1. @ Veni Vidi Victor:

the recorded questions and answers suggest a thorough investigation

An investigation has no meaning if it is dropped like a hot potato, which is what happened. And which is what happens in almost every case involving serious wrongdoing by senior intelligence or military officials. It is part and parcel of the corruption endemic to almost every aspect of Israeli society.
