  1. Racism is a serious problem [here in Israel]. It is not helped by a derisory governmental policy towards non-Jewish migrants, although I do note wherever in the world migrants and refugees tend to find themselves, similar stories of crime and discrimination arise.

It is incumbent on law makers to ameliorate the condition of refugees and migrants and to us who abide by the words written in the Torah, וַאֲהַבְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־הַגֵּ֑ר כִּֽי־גֵרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם namely, “you will love the stranger because you were strangers in the Land of Egypt”…

but with the current populist government clinging to power, there’s little chance of that happening.

In western nations, to which Israeli proudly & falsely compares itself, international humanitarian law is followed. Perhaps not 100%, but close enough that such laws mean something. In Israel, such laws have no bearing & are totally trashed.

The “current populist government” is running things almost the same as a centrist or liberal government would. Even if there was a Labor government African refugees would be tormented. Look at how Golda treated the Black Hebrews. Just that the torment would be milder and the embarrassment in the face of international opprobrium greater.

  2. Herein lies the rub, [when they exist] the very crimes of discrimination and racism that are found in western nations are seldom used to delegitimise the very existence of those nations but when it comes to Israel, it is somehow the leitmotif and thrust of the delegitimisation of the modern State of Israel.

It cuts both ways, Israel rightly should be held to account for heinous racism and discrimination but that is not [in and of itself] reason to nullify a nation’s right to exist.

    1. @ gefilte: There is no such thing as ‘delegitimization.’ It doesn’t exist. It’s a figment of Bibi & your imagination. Israel is the only party which delegitimizes itself. If it wishes to survive it must rid itself of systemic racism, prejudice & discrimination. That is up to Israel. Criticism of those phenomena by others is not delegitimization. It is legitimate. Wholly so. If you don’t want the criticism then change the country. If you can’t, then the criticism will continue. And if you never do, then really, what is your country worth? Do you deserve to exist?
