  1. Umm had a dram or two? “who’d previously opposed a military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities have changed their mind and now oppose it”

U.S. is watching every move Israel/Iran makes. It won’t be a surprise attack.

    1. Surprise attack? It’s all over the papers, TV and the Net. Everything short of promos and trailers.
Soon in the theaters! Tickets available!

  2. Israel wraps itself in the flag of the irresistible force. Cannot lose. No siree. Is also immune and impune in respect of international law, so aggressive warfare is OK. That, at any rate, is the mindset.

And the reality? Who knows? UN is beginning to fight back (when the nations can strike without much cost to themselves, true): see UNESCO. How long until ICC? As to military invulnerability, Hizballah seems to have stymied Israel once, might do it again.

No way to know but to try. Wrapt in its flag of irresistibility, I think Israel will try it. It has no parents to set bedtimes. Those old Mossad fuddy-duddies, softies all, try to set a bed-time, but the children run this family. Uncle Obama is no use at all — just gives ice-creams whenever baby asks.

Baby has a testosterone problem. Not the first time in history.

  3. RE: “Israel can only wound Iran. It cannot land a knockout blow.” ~ R.S.

FROM TED RALL, 07/22/10: …Umberto Eco’s 1995 essay Eternal Fascism describes the cult of action for its own sake under fascist regimes and movements: “Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation.”

  4. Short of using nukes Israel can only hope to provoke the Iranians into unwise acts of retaliation. The military exercises, missile launches and daily blusters of jingoism from Israel’s organs of disinformation are smokescreens, that underlie the impotence and increasing desperation of Netanyahu’s regime.
