  1. Mr. Emerson sounds like quite the delightful chap. I would be very surprised if John Hagee Minitries® hasn’t cut him at least one big, fat check.

  2. I’m delighted. It just proves the caliber of the people who are behind the hate movement against Muslims and other groups. These bottom feeders eventually become exposed for the worthless opportunists they really are.

  3. This whole terror business is a scam on so many levels, so this is no surprise. Emerson is up there with Frank Gaffney and other semi-literates who are all over the media as supposed experts on Islamic Terrorism. Not one of them speak Arabic and yet they are treated as serious people on this topic. Imagine a Shakespeare expert who didn’t speak a word of English.

  4. Emerson has been on the edge for a long, long time. He falsely claimed that the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing was the work of Muslim terrorists — resulting in a local mosque being peppered with gunfire. He also falsely claimed that the state university hosted a jihadist student group, and implied a link between the group and the bombing. That claim was immediately picked up by the local Congressman, who made a speech on the floor decrying the university!

At the time, Margot Habiby (niece of peacenik and Knesset member Emil and a US-born Palestinian Christian) was a graduate student of mine. She had been editor of the student newspaper there, and her father Raymond was a professor of international law there (he’s still active and emeritus). She spent a frustrating week tracking down the tenuous basis for Emerson’s reporting (a Muslim student group had held a peaceful convention at a local Oklahoma City Hotel — and it had nothing to do with the University).

The following year, Emerson received a top award for broadcast investigative reporting from Investigative Reporters and Editors, the top investigative reporting organization in the US. I and some others protested (not only was the report in some respects false, it also used — plagiarized — a colleague’s work at ABC News) and I quit the organization.

Despite all that, he’s done rather well, hasn’t he?

      1. This guy has had a run of almost 20 years and I’m still waiting. In this generation, idiocy bests reason almost every time. Gads, look at the elected leaders of Israel and Iraq! Look at George Bush! Would you hire any of them for your private company? Reason requires gathering of facts, sorting of opinions, reconciling divergent views. It is so… hard. And emotion is so… easy.
