  1. shalom richard,
    on an unrelated matter,

i’d be interested to hear your take on the amadinajead speech at the durban review conference, and the connection netanyahu made(and seems to make on a dialy basis now) between the Iranian president and Hitler, in his yom hashoah speech.

  2. Accusations of being “another Hitler” have lost much of their impact outside of the fanatic Zionist community IMHO.

Saddam Hussein was demonized as “another Hitler” in the runnup leading to the Iraq invasion. As was Egyptian President Nasser before that nation signed a peace treaty with Israel.

Iran — while strongly denouncing Zionist Israel and its world wide web of supporters — has never threatened to attack Israel despite almost daily Israeli threats to attack Iran.

  3. This remark by Lieberman sounds very much like a similar remark ascribed to Sharon. How did it go again:

“During an argument between the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres, Peres said that Isralis’ policies of continued violence might “turn the US against us”.

    To this Sharon retorted:

    “EVERY TIME WE DO SOMETHING, YOU TELL ME AMERICANS WILL DO THIS AND WILL DO THAT. I WANT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING VERY CLEAR: DON’T WORRY ABOUT AMERICAN PRESSURE ON ISRAEL;

WE, THE JEWISH PEOPLE, CONTROL AMERICA. AND THE AMERICANS KNOW IT.”

    — Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon

    (IAP News) ”

I believe that various attempts have been made to deny that Sharon ever made this remark by people who understand its negative impact on American public opinion. Obviously L. was not among them.

I was disgusted by the kneejerk walkout by various Western representatives during the Ahmadinejad speech. They did get the direct English translation didn’t they? If so they should have noted that A. left out various dubious statements made in the printed version, inter alia about the holocaust. What he said about Israel as a ‘racist country’ seemed to me to be the plain truth. But, as so often when the topic is Israel, the truth is regarded as an offensive stranger.

    1. Arie….fyi…the walk out was by dozens of activists and students as described below…not Western Reps during his speech…and because their walk out started as soon as he began speaking it could not be blamed on anything that Iranian president actually said, only that he was saying something. This orchestrated effort to synchronize the globe against the latest ‘hitlerian incarnation’ seems to not be working anymore…just like the boy who cried wolf too many times…with ref also to labelling any critic as ‘anti semitic’ or self hating…this clamping down on SPEECH..in favor of war is Orwellian and nightmarish…but that is the downward spiral that has been predicted and warned against ..the result of choosing a nationalism, a fundamentalism and Real Estate over ANY theological proscriptions or moral/ethical decisions. Uri Davis wrote about it…Ilan Pappe wrote about it…Y.Liebowitz and Shahak et al..years ago.

U.N. pulls badges from Jewish NGOs
      April 22, 2009
GENEVA (JTA) — The United Nations pulled credentials from a number of Jewish activists who disrupted a speech by the Iranian president at the Durban Review Conference.

Of the 46 badges that were pulled this week for disruptive behavior, the vast majority were from individuals accredited through Jewish organizations. Notably, the French Union of Jewish Students lost 21 badges.

Credentials were stripped as well from four members of the European Union of Jewish Students and one B’nai Brith member. Between them, the French and European Jewish student groups had 370 members accredited, amounting to more than one-third of all the NGO activists at the conference.

U.N. officials said they believed Jewish activists who already had their credentials pulled swapped badges with members of another group, Coexist.

“It seems they were in league with each other,” said Rupert Colville, a U.N. spokesman.

Some of those who lost their credentials were ejected after they donned rainbow wigs and clown noses and rushed the podium during the speech of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Others were barred because they were found to be hiding clown paraphernalia and plotting a second disruption, said Colville.

The United Nations is still investigating how many other individuals may have been involved, with the U.N. accreditation of entire groups possibly revoked if they were found to have coordinated the disruptions. No charges are expected to be filed against individuals.

“I don’t think that throwing a nose is a criminal offense,” Colville said.

Two members of an Iranian group were expelled for distributing “offensive materials” and an Israeli journalist was sent out for “screaming racist comments” from the gallery, according to Colville.

  4. “WE, THE JEWISH PEOPLE, CONTROL AMERICA. AND THE AMERICANS KNOW IT.”

It’s a pretty typical phony propaganda quote from a Palestinian group IAP. They allege it came from Kol Yisrael. Kol Yisrael denies ever broadcasting the quote and the Chicago Tribune and Sarasota Herald Tribune ran retractions:
“Editor’s note: Georgie Anne Geyer’s May 10 column included a quote from Ariel Sharon, ‘I control America.’ This quote was widely reported in the Palestinian press but cannot be confirmed in independent sources. Geyer and Universal Press Syndicate regret not having attributed the quote more specifically.”

    1. Absolutely shocking. I am in a virtual state of perpetual speechlessness.

Fair enough Julian, that quote by Sharon may have been fabricated but you can’t deny that there is a certain air of arrogance about the Israelis with regards to their influence on the US.

I’ll give you an example: On 13 January 2009, The Guardian published an article relating one Israeli PM Ehud Olmert’s claim that he had called George Bush to override US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice at the UN vis-a-vis Rice’s very own Gaza ceasefire resolution:

The Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert, speaking at a meeting in Ashkelon in southern Israel last night, claimed that he had been forced to call George Bush, the US president, to override Rice. According to Olmert, Rice had been planning to vote with the other members of the security council for the resolution.

But the resolution was passed with 14 votes for, and one abstention.

Olmert, in a speech in Hebrew, is reported to have said: “When we saw that the secretary of state, for reasons we did not really understand, wanted to vote in favour of the UN resolution … I looked for President Bush and they told me he was in Philadelphia making a speech.

“I said, ‘I don’t care. I have to talk to him now’. They got him off the podium, brought him to another room and I spoke to him. I told him, ‘You can’t vote in favour of this resolution.’ He said, ‘Listen, I don’t know about it, I didn’t see it, I’m not familiar with the phrasing.'”

Olmert said: “He gave an order to the secretary of state and she did not vote in favour of it – a resolution she cooked up, phrased, organised and manoeuvred for. She was left pretty shamed and abstained on a resolution she arranged.”

Gordon Johndroe, a White House spokesman, said today: “I’ve seen these press reports. They are inaccurate.”

Olmert’s version coincides with the one offered up by other members of the security council the day after the vote.

It is also known that Rice had been planning a press conference before the vote but abruptly cancelled it to take a call from Bush.

  5. Isn’t that actually good news? Lieberman will hardly endear himself and his govt to Obama with such boisterousness. If the latter really intends to put Israel’s feet to the fire, he’ll be grateful for useful idiots.

  6. This is great fun! Give the man enough rope, and he’ll hang himself.

The Haaretz article is very revealing, especially with its photo of George Mitchell regarding Lieberman, looking everything like someone contemplating a dog’s turd.

I imagine the American establishment will be over the moon that Lieberman wants Russia more involved in the Middle East.

Where will America’s ME aircraft carrier be when the cabin boy wants the Russkies on board?

  7. Follow-up on Lieberman’s claim that the US will do what Israel wants:

I’ve always believed Sharon’s quote was true, because it was so typical of the man’s arrogance. Julian’s quotes of editor’s retractions seem very typical of what happens when AIPAC and the ADL have a go at them.

    See: Jane Harman.

  8. There is no doubt the quote was a fake. Sharon was arrogant, but also a very smart. He was a brilliant General.
He wouldn’t want to provoke his ally. Lieberman I just can’t figure. His statement sounds moronic. I’ve been to Israel and most Israelis don’t want to antagonize the U.S.
Maybe he’s just an idiot with a big mouth that finds he likes the attention.

  9. Lieberman’s only failing is his total honesty even in the public face. He is a demagogue and quite frankly he appeals to so many who (a) are fed up with this “peace process” jingle and (b) show total disdain for Arabs in general and (c) believe that Israel’s destiny is for Israelis only and no American administration can make them give up what they don’t want to give up.

Just looking through the web, there are many Libermanites out there who didn’t vote for him but speak in his language of Iron Wall and ridiculing the US role in “imposing” a solution.

  10. hello Richard,

i hope you will be fair enough not to delete this comment of mine because you have a history of deleting comments, even if they don’t include threats, profanities, name calling and etc..i.e, just because you didn’t like what was written there.

i noticed that on myself and from reading that you did that to others.

beneath you can say “eat your heart out”

  11. He really doesn’t appeal to that many people. It’s just the crazy Israeli system gives too much power to every nut with a following.
