  1. Let’s not forget the biggest irony of all: when Arab people do exercise democracy, we ignore the results when we don’t like them.

  2. Good point, Judy, but “ignore” is too weak of a word here. The Bush Administration didn’t just “ignore” Hamas’s victory in the January 2006 Palestinian elections but has actively tried to overturn it.

Are we all ready for Hosni Mubarak and the Saudi royals to be swept aside so that Islamists can come to power in Egypt and Saudi Arabia? Bring it on, democracy fans…

    Finally, Meyrav is a “she”.

  3. Andy: Yes, that’s right. I was confusing her with David Wurmser. Unfortunately, their politics appear to be virtually the same. They’re either married or siblings so little surprise there.

  4. Bush talking to anyone anywhere anytime about democracy, a concept beyond his ken and his fundamental desire, reminds me of that famous line of Dr. Sam Johnson, quoted by the worshipful Boswell when he informed Johnson that he, Boswell, had seen a woman making a speech in public. Johnson’s response, and I paraphrase: “A woman making a speech is like a dog standing on its hind legs. It doesn’t do it well, but it’s a wonder it’s doing it at all.” I apologize to my fellow feminists, but I do think it’s funny and rather applicable to our disgusting little leader’s rant.
