Jewish Republicans Liken Obama to Nazis

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

The N.Y. Times notes that a Jewish Republican campaign committee in Pennsylvania has been distributing a mass e-mail to Jewish voters there which claims (mendaciously of course) that Obama trained Acorn volunteers to falsify voter registration forms and that a vote for Obama would be like  the “tragic mistake” of their Jewish ancestors, who “ignored the warning signs in the 1930’s and 1940’s.”  Another lie in the message says Obama was “associated with a known terrorist, William Ayers, who thought the terrorists didn’t do enough on 9/11.”  He actually said the Weather Underground didn’t do enough and it isn’t even clear in that statement that he referred to acts of terror.  But hey, what are a few lies among friends?

I’ve been following the absolutely miasmic smears fomented by Jewish Republicans against Obama and this one sinks to new lows.  Though that’s hard to say since the previous attempts have been so swamp-like.

The creators of this e-mail made the mistake of attaching their names and that of the Party to it so they could be traced.  What fools.  Wouldn’t it have made more sense to circulate this anonymously as so many Obama Jewish smears have been previously?

Now that they’ve been “outed” the Party has renounced the e-mail and fired veteran political consultant, Bryan Rudnick, who wrote it.  Rudnick, among his other claims to fame, managed Katherine Harris’ losing political campaign during which he had the balls to say:

“I joined this campaign because Congresswoman Harris is a passionate supporter of Israel, the Jewish people and always has the best interests of all Floridians at heart. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone.”

So there you have it: if you’re the grandson of survivors you too have the right to abuse the Holocaust for political gain.  I tell you I’m ashamed of this as a Jew.
