Major Study Finds No Muslim-American Terror Menace

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Will someone tell Pam Geller, Robert Spencer, David Yerushalmi, and Gates of Vienna they might as well close up shop.  A new study reported by the NY Times‘ Scott Shane confirms what most of us knew all along.  The alleged phenomenon of Muslim-American terror is largely concocted from their fevered, belabored imagination:

A feared wave of homegrown terrorism by radicalized Muslim Americans has not materialized, with plots and arrests dropping sharply over the two years since an unusual peak in 2009, according to a new study by a North Carolina research group.

The study, to be released on Wednesday, found that 20 Muslim Americans were charged in violent plots or attacks in 2011, down from 26 in 2010 and a spike of 47 in 2009.

Charles Kurzman, the author of the report for the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security, called terrorism by Muslim Americans “a minuscule threat to public safety.” Of about 14,000 murders in the United States last year, not a single one resulted from Islamic extremism, said Mr. Kurzman, a professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina.

The report also notes that the number of American Muslims charged with terrorism since 9/11 has topped out at the whopping total of 193. Of all the thousands of such cases, only 193 were perpetrated by Muslims in the past 11 years! The anti-jihadis owe these American citizens an abject apology. But they won’t get one. Instead they’ll continue feeling the cold blast of hate. And anti-Muslim haters like Yerushalmi will continue their financially lucrative campaign of writing anti-Sharia laws for state governments, some of which don’t even have a substantial Muslim population living in their borders. If anything was a solution in search of a problem, this is it.

No doubt, Geller will be snooping into the study author’s background (Jewish) attempting to find bias or some other taint. Good luck to her. It won’t take much to satisfy her twisted mind that the study is part of the international conspiracy to downplay the Muslim menace.

The ‘Other’ Righteous Gentiles: Muslims

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

I’ve been rolling around in the mud too much in the past week or so after exposing David Lange and Yeshayahu Rotter. It’s time to hear of heroes and human decency for a change. I hope you appreciate these courageous acts as much as I did in reading about them and writing this post.

Anyone who knows anything about the Holocaust knows about the Righteous Gentiles, those heroic non-Jews recognized by Israel’s Yad Vashem museum for saving the lives of Jews at great peril to themselves. In almost every instance, these gentiles are Christian. It is a lesser known fact that a number of Muslims also saved Jews during World War II. In a number of cases, Israel has been unwilling to recognize their heroism by bestowing the designation on them.

The first case is that of an individual known as the “Muslim Schindler,” an Iranian diplomat who risked everything in wartime Paris to save Jews who sought his assistance:

Abdol-Hossein Sardari, a junior Iranian diplomat, found himself almost by accident in charge of Iran’s mission in Paris in 1940 and went on to help up to 2,000 Iranian Jews flee France, according to In the Lion’s Shadow.

But he only recently received posthumous recognition for his deeds.

…But by cultivating his contacts with German and Vichy officials, Mr Sardari somehow managed to win exemptions from Nazi race laws for at least 2,000 Iranian Jews by arguing that they did not have blood ties to European Jewry.

He claimed that despite the fact that some Iranians had followed the teachings of the Prophet Moses for thousands of years, they had always been of Iranian stock and therefore were “Mousaique” – Moses followers, which he dubbed “Djuguten” – and not part of the Jewish race.

…His task became even more dangerous when Britain and Russia invaded Iran in September 1941, when he was ordered by Tehran to return home as soon as possible after it signed a treaty with the Allies. But he stayed on regardless, using instead inheritance money to keep his office going after being stripped of his diplomatic immunity and pay.

A perfect example of an ingenious, resourceful individual exploiting the machinery and thinking of the Nazi bureaucracy in order to retain a sense of humanity. For his troubles, Sardari died a lonely, unheralded figure in exile:

[He] neither sought nor received much recognition for his efforts in his lifetime and died lonely in a bedsit in Croydon, south London, in 1981.

He had lost his ambassador’s pension and Tehran properties in the Iranian revolution.

In one of the rare instances in which you will find me speaking positively of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, they recognized Sardari’s achievements in a 2004 ceremony. Though I suspect the reason may’ve been remunerative in that Los Angeles Iranian Jewish community is immensely wealthy and such a award would tend to open the spigot for their donations to the Center. No matter, even doing a good deed for a bad reason is good.

In the second case, another Jewish Holocaust survivor from Arab lands wrote of her championing of her Muslim savior. When I first read the author’s last name, Weisel, I figured she would be a relative of Elie Wiesel, writing of her own survival of the Holocaust. How wrong I was.

In her op-ed she masterfully presents her story as if she was a typical (if there can be such a thing) survivor saved in WWII Europe by a Righteous Christian Gentile:

IN December 1942, when I was 13 years old, German troops occupied my hometown. Within days, our house was commandeered as an officers’ mess hall. I soon had a yellow star on my dress, setting me apart from many of my childhood friends. The men of our family were ordered into forced labor. My happy life had vanished.

Luckily, an influential local man knew of our difficult straits and generously offered his protection. One night, he ferried the women, children and old men in our family to a farm he owned about 20 miles outside of town. There, he said, we would be safe. Though the stables he provided us for lodging were modest, with just a drape across the door to protect against the elements, we were relieved to be behind the thick, high walls of his property. We were deeply grateful.

Yet here she ‘lowers the boom,’ exposing the true identity of her savior:

During the horrors of the Holocaust, non-Jews saved many thousands of Jews from death and depravity at the hands of Germans and their allies. Yad Vashem, Israel’s official Holocaust memorial museum, has recognized more than 23,000 of these brave men and women as “The Righteous Among the Nations.” Our family’s rescuer deserves to be among that number. And in his case, the impact of recognition would have powerful reverberations, striking a blow against Holocaust denial in a part of the world where such denial is widespread.

That is because my hometown is Mahdia, on the eastern shore of Tunisia, and our rescuer, Khaled Abdul Wahab, was an Arab Muslim. (He passed away in 1997.)

Yet his noble act of heroism has yet to be recognized by the State of Israel. In fact, efforts by her to do so have been summarily rejected. So despite the enormous suffering inflicted on the Jews during the Holocaust and the few non-Jews who assuaged that suffering by saving their lives, Israel perpetuates some of that injustice by denying Khaled Abdul Wahab his due as a Righteous Gentile:

So far, however, Abdul Wahab has been denied the recognition he deserves. Nearly five years ago, in January 2007, the Department of the Righteous at Yad Vashem nominated him to be a “righteous,” the first Arab ever to be formally considered for this honor. This nomination was based on witness testimony from my late sister, Anny Boukris. In March of that year, however, the official Commission for the Designation of the Righteous, a body presided over by a retired Israeli judge and created by Israeli law to decide who merits recognition as a “righteous,” voted to reject the nomination. That decision was kept secret for two years.

It gets worse, one of the key Israeli figures who denied Wahab the status he is due was the same man who chaired the Israeli commission which exonerated the IDF of any misdeeds resulting from the Mavi Marmara massacre. Retired Supreme Court Judge Jacob Turkel continued his record of prejudicing the deeds of Muslims by refusing to honor Wahab:

In 2010, that same jurist, Justice Jacob Tuerkel, sent the Abdul Wahab file back to the commission for a second review. This time, the case was bolstered by two fresh testimonies — a video interview of my cousin Edmee Masliah, who was with me at the farm and now lives outside Paris, and a notarized letter I wrote recounting my own experience. Yad Vashem now had three firsthand accounts of the story. But to my complete dismay, the Commission for the Designation of the Righteous once again voted to reject the nomination. Abdul Wahab was a noble man, I was told by Yad Vashem, but his actions did not rise to the statutory level required to merit the “righteous” designation — that is, he didn’t “risk his life” to save Jewish lives.

This is patent nonsense. Anyone with any knowledge of the Holocaust period knows that anyone caught harboring Jewish fugitives could be killed, even summarily executed. To claim that Wahad didn’t endanger his own life is unspeakable.

Eva Weisel, the survivor, is entirely too generous and kind to Israel for this behavior. But I will allow her to display her graciousness in hope it may shame Israelis into pressuring this committee to reverse the injustice it has committed:

I refuse to believe that Yad Vashem has one standard for “righteous” in Europe and another for “righteous” who performed their sacred duty on the other side of the Mediterranean, in an Arab country.

Sixty-nine years after pinning a yellow star to my chest in my native land, I know that I was able to enjoy a long, full life because Abdul Wahab confronted evil and saved me, as he saved other fortunate members of my family. I hope that Yad Vashem reconsiders his case before no one is left to tell his story.

One of the hardest things for me to accept concerning the Holocaust in contemporary times is the blithe disregard some of us non-survivors have for those who endured this unspeakable horror. We stand in judgment of them. Take the abomination that is the attack on George Soros, who was a Hungarian teenager when he was taken in by a non-Jewish family friend. To hear Glenn Beck tell it, Soros practically betrayed the Jews in their hiding places. Who the hell is Glenn Beck to sit in judgment? What does he know about what Soros and those other Jews went through? How does he know how he would’ve reacted under the same circumstances? Would he have behaved better, worse?

By the same token, how can someone comfortably ensconced in the 21st century determine that a Tunisian who saved a large Jewish family from liquidation, did so at no direct danger to himself? How would someone not privy to the period know that Wahab behaved in a way that was little better than any average human being would have? It’s damn offensive, I say, both to history, the victims and their protectors.

Justice for Khaled Abdul Wahab! Let us not allow the current climate of Islamophobia that reigns in Israel to invade the sacred precincts of recognizing Holocaust heroes.

I’m also reminded of the true story behind the novel, People of the Book, which recounts the brave acts of heroism by Croatian Muslims who took the Sarajevo Haggadah from the local Jewish community for safekeeping during the Holocaust. As one of the most valuable and unique historic Jewish illuminated manuscripts, it was highly sought after by the Nazis for their museum of the Jewish people which they planned after they’d liquidated every one of us. Local Muslims frustrated these aims and preserved the book so it could be repatriated to the Jewish community after the War.

During the Sarajevo siege, the book was again endangered as it would housed in the national library building which was savagely shelled by Serbian forces. Once again, the brave citizens of the city spirited the book to a secret hiding place until it was safe for it to resurface. James Wolfensohn generously subsidized a new facsimile reprinting of the Haggadah which is for sale (click on link).

In the Ted Koppel era, Nightline aired an amazing documentary by Edward Serotta about the saving of the Sarajevo haggadah. I recommend it very highly and you can buy it through the Amazon ad here.

The moral of this tale is that there are Israeli Jewish nationalists who seek to deny the goodness and decency of Muslims. They do this for purely political reasons. And when they do so they not only perpetuate the sins of the Holocaust, they deny Jewish humanity and give in to the fear and ignorance of racism. Let us not give in. Let us give all Righteous Gentiles their due, including Muslims.

Death of Israeli Co-Existence: Mosque Burning at Tuba-Zangariyye

Friday, October 7th, 2011

While NY Times coverage of Israel is generally far lower in quality or comprehensiveness than other issues it covers, Isabel Kershner did manage to write a reasonable story about the mosque burning at Tuba-Zangariyye.  Here is how she begins:

The founders of this Bedouin Arab village in the Israeli countryside tied their fate to that of their Jewish neighbors even before the establishment of the Israeli state in 1948.

The once nomadic Muslim tribesmen here helped defend early Jewish settlements in the area during the Arab revolt of the 1930s, local residents recalled. In the 1940s, they formed a strong alliance with Yigal Allon, then a young commander of the Palmach, the elite Zionist fighting force, receiving land in return for their loyalty and support.

She closes with this telling indictment of the current Israeli state with its collusion or at least tolerance for extremist Jewish terror:

…About a quarter of the youths in Tuba-Zangariya volunteer for the Israeli military, mainly for economic reasons, according to local residents. The Bedouin soldiers serve mostly as trackers, helping defend the country’s hostile frontiers. Afterward, they say that it is easier to find jobs and that they are entitled to preferential mortgage terms and other benefits.

But for some, the wedge opened by the arson attack has exposed a latent sense of injustice and alienation. Walid Heib, 37, said that if some of the elders of the village had not fought with the Palmach, there might not have been an Israel.

It would have been better if they had not,” he said, “because now we feel like the strangers here.”

Israel’s Jewish leadership should think long and hard about these sentiments.  They come from a Palestinian village long loyal and integrated into the State.  If all it takes to destroy 60 years of allegiance is a few pimply teenaged extremist Jews with a can of kerosene and a match, then how much is Israel’s vaunted democracy worth?  Israel must ask itself what it wants to be: a Jewish state with the majority religion (and ethnicity) privileged and the minority trashed and despised; or a state in which all enjoy equal privileges, rights and responsibilities.

She did neglect to mention that Bibi Netanyahu hasn’t deemed it important enough to show his face at the site of the Jewish arson attack (though Shimon Peres and the chief rabbis have).  She also did not mention that none of the previous arson attacks have resulted in any charges filed against any suspects.  The most severe punishment the Shin Bet metes out to suspects is filing restraining orders against them preventing them from palling around with their fellow terrorists buds in Yitzhar for a few months.  The police seem to believe that this will act as a deterrent to future acts of terror, though they were clearly wrong in this case.

Similarly, Israel almost never imprisons Jews guilty of terror (except in the egregious case of Yigal Amir).  Rather it prefers to declare them insane and then consign them to mental hospitals (a practice common to authoritarian regimes like the Soviet Union and China).  Those who are sentenced to prison almost universally receive pardons or clemency.  Palestinian terrorists never receive such gestures.

What will it take?  Perhaps some Palestinians burning down Heychal Shlomo, the seat of the chief rabbi?  I don’t advocate this by any means, but why are Israelis tone-deaf to the suffering their fellow Jews inflict on their fellow Palestinian citizens?  Must they suffer a comparable act of depravity before they understand what’s been done to Muslims?

New Seattle-Area Mosque Dedicated

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

The Muslim Association of Puget Sound (MAPS) dedicated its gleaming new mosque this past weekend at a celebration I was privileged to attend.  It was a joyful, festive ocassion and as a Jew I was especially grateful to participate with my Muslim neighbors.  There were a number of government representatives there including the mayor of Redmond, the jurisdiction which approved all the permits to build the mosque.

As you can imagine, the Muslim community (and perhaps local officials) were apprehensive lest a local Pam Geller-type be roused to action against the facility.  Luckily no such opposition happened and the local Muslim community worked hand in glove with the city to bring this dream to reality.

Being based in Redmond, many mosque members are highly educated professionals a number of whom work on Microsoft’s international product initiatives.  In this increasingly global environment, companies like this will need such a diverse work force.  It’s wonderful to see such developments in Redmond.

Rob McKenna had the chutzpah to show up even after he joined a number of state attorneys general in proposing that Washington State should have a foreign policy position supporting Israel’s horrendous war on Gaza.  I note that the local Jewish community and elected officials like McKenna who opposed the I-97 city BDS initiative, suggested it wasn’t the business of Seattle to take a position on foreign policy.  They didn’t manage to maintain any consistency on McKenna’s signing of the attorneys general letter.  I guess it depends which foreign policy a local official is advancing as to whether Jews and the pro-Israelists support local forays into foreign policy.

I had the opportunity to hear the MAPS Imam Joban, a native of Indonesia, whose address took a suitably joyful, yet serious tone with the audience of mixed Muslims and non-Muslims.  I also appreciated that he included a short Muslim prayer in his homiliy sung in a style somewhat reminiscent of what a Jew might hear a cantor or rabbi sing in a synagogue.

The Episcopal bishop of western Washington warmly addressed the gathering. I note only one Jewish community leader, Rabbi Jim Mirel, attended the celebration.  I was happy to see Rabbi Mirel there, and not surprised that I didn’t see any other leaders of the community there.  There is very little effort made by my community to build bridges to the Muslim community.  In fact, local Jews allow a group like Stand With Us, with its harsh anti-Arab, anti-Muslim rhetoric to set the tone for Jewish-Muslim relations or the lack thereof.

I’ve reported here that I attempted to organize a mosque-synagogue Twinning initiative between MAPS and my own synagogue, Beth Sholom, but my rabbi, Jill Borodin, under likely pressure from congregation members affiliated with Stand With Us, retreated from her own commitment to sponsor such an initiative.  Rabbi Daniel Weiner last year tried to organize a Twinning, but his record of deep animosity for Iran including support for violent regime change, which I’ve written about here, and his strong pro-Israel positions didn’t endear him to the local Muslim community either.

A community in which there has been a horrible killing by a Muslim-American as happened at the Seattle Jewish federation offices several years ago ought to cause local Jews to make the strongest effort to reach out to the Muslim community to find common ground and discuss issues that unite and divide us.  Except for Rabbi Mirel and his congregation, this isn’t happening.  A far better job is being done by the Middle East Task Force of St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, with whom I joined in a conference about Islamophobia.  There I was able to address issues of Jewish-Muslim relations in ways that likely could never happen inside the local Jewish community.

Geller, Anti-Jihadi Blogs Have ‘Very Real Blood of Children on Their Hands’

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

“People like Fjordman and Pamela Geller and the right-wing blogosphere who spew apocalyptic rhetoric and refuse to denounce the extremists among them now have the very real blood of children on their hands.”

OK, let take a quiz: who wrote that?  Glenn Greenwald, perhaps?  Andrew Sullivan?  Or even me?  Not a chance.  This fascinating piece of writing comes from none other than Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs.  If you’d asked me whether I’d ever agree with anything Johnson wrote I’d have said, hell no.  But the fact is that it’s damn important that someone like Johnson writes this.  Even more important than if Greenwald or Andrew Sullivan or I do.

Many supporters of Geller, Spencer, et al. have taken umbrage at my accusation that they inspired these foul murders.  I can explain all I want but they’ll never buy it.  But they’ll have a far harder time disputing with LGF’s founder.

A Dutch newspaper, Politiken, reports that Breivik’s political awakening occurred during a conference he attended in Copenhagen in 2007 sponsored by the bizarrely named, International Civil Liberties Alliance (originally called the Center for Vigilant Freedom).  At the event, he had his first opportunity to rub shoulders and network with his counterparts from throughout the rest of Europe and the U.S.  Robert Spencer was there, along with Ned May aka Baron Bodissey of Gates of Vienna, and other far-right bloggers.  According to Politiken, these are a few of the English language websites within the network represented by the Alliance: Gates of Vienna,  Jihad Watch, Atlas Shrugs, MEMRI, the English Defence League.

I find it almost wickedly funny that Pam Geller is blaming Johnson for the Breivik massacre.  I kid you not.  This illustrates the depth of the woman’s depravity:

Breivik cites LGF numerous times…He includes a long diatribe against Charles Johnson, whom he clearly admired until he felt betrayed enough to snap. The killer speaks about Charles Johnson obsessively and wrings his hands about Johnson’s turn to the left. Could this perhaps have been the provocation? Could this have been what caused him to snap?

The idea that Geller has any skills at psychological analysis is beyond ludicrous.  Also, the notion that Breivik “snapped” is fatuous.  He no more snapped than all the blogs he admired including Geller’s “snapped.”  They are all part of a calculated, carefully developed and nurtured campaign against Islam and those they view as its secular western leftist enablers.   The only difference between Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, Pam Geller, et al. and Breivik is that he translated their theories into action.  They, as he pointed out, didn’t have the courage of their beliefs to actually take Islam on physically.  He did.

Read this from Gates of Vienna and tell me what distinction you can make between it and Breivik’s beliefs:

We are in a religious war, whether we like it or not.It is not for us to define the conditions, but we would do well to pay attention to them. We are mistaken if we think that the only enemy is out to kill us. Jihad is again offering the West two choices: We can convert or die.

It should also be noted that this passage matches perfectly the ideological world view of Kahanist settler extremists, who again, Breivik admired.  This is why I argue vehemently against the notion that the Israeli-Arab conflict is primarily religious in nature.  That takes us into the realm of holy wars and Armageddon.  There is only death there.  Rather, the conflict is a political one and like all political conflicts it can be resolved through negotiation.  These are ideas that are anathema to the Breiviks and Gellers of this world.

I’m offended by Breivik’s lawyer’s attempt to label him mentally ill.  In fact, the eminent psychiatrist Dr. Marc Sagemann, whose written about Islamist jihadis, says he’s seen no hint of mental illness in Breivik’s writings.  Of course, there is much delusion, much fantasy, much anger.  But that is not mental illness.  Declaring these crimes to be the result of insanity defangs and depoliticizes them.  Breivik is a political assassin.  His crimes must be understood as fundamentally political.  The answer to his crimes much also be political, as Norwegians are doing successfully in their hundreds of thousands by embracing their fellow Muslim citizens and reaffirming their commitment to democracy and tolerance–all the values Breivik detested.

The right would like nothing more than diagnose Breivik as insane.  It would get them off the hook.  It would create a firewall between them and him.  But he is no more insane than they are.  If he’s insane then they are too and perhaps we should lock the lot of ‘em up in a mental institution.  But seriously, the antidote to Breivik is more freedom, more tolerance, more dialogue with the other.  And that’s the way to face down the hateful Gellers of the world as well.

Breivik’s Neo-Nazi Manifesto, Latter-Day Mein Kampf

Sunday, July 24th, 2011
2083 a European Declaration of Independence

Title page of Breivik's manifesto

Hitler had his Jewish problem. Anders Breivik, his Muslim problem. The more I read of Breivik’s manifesto, A European Declaration of Independence, the more it appears to me a latter-day version of Hitler’s Mein Kampf.

Remember that when the dictator-to-be wrote his magnum opus he had not yet devised the formula for the Final Solution. He knew what the problem was (Jews) and had some ideas about how to deal with it, but he hadn’t come up with the policy of genocide adopted at the 1942 Wansee Conference. So Breivik sees clearly that the problem for Europe is Muslims (rather than Jews). They are the common “foreign” body infecting the pure western European gene pool. But Breivik hasn’t yet developed a genocidal policy to accompany this realization. He only states that Muslims must be removed from Europe (and the western world, including Israel), not that they must be exterminated.

But given that Breivik forecast that his right-wing revolution would not succeed till 2083, we can only wonder at what sort of Final Solution there would be for the Muslim problem in Europe by then.

While Breivik’s views in one major particular diverge from those of Hitler, in many other ways they mirror each other precisely. As for the difference, Breivik only sees SOME Jews as the problem. Those are the Marxist Jews in the Diaspora and Israel, the ones embracing multiculturalism. They are the enemy. But the Norwegian neo-Nazi views Zionist Israel, as represented by anti-jihadis like Avigdor Lieberman, as what he calls “cultural cousins.” Israel is the far-right’s friend in this view because this is a nation that hates Islam and will expel the Muslims living within it.

Interestingly, John Hagee’s views of Jews and Israel are very similar.  Hagee too believes that secular Jews and Jewish political leftists are the enemies of Christianity and the ones who will die in the End Times.  Israel, that is Zionist Israel living out the Biblical dream, will survive in his world view.  They will be the saving remnant, and of course the group that will eventually turn to accept Jesus as Christ.  Hagee’s best friends in Israel, the settlers and political leaders like Avigdor Lieberman, are precisely the ones admired most by Breivik.

Hitler too railed against Jewish Bolsheviks and saw them as the heart of all evil. Perhaps had Hitler lived to see the creation of the State of Israel he too might’ve modified his views about Jews (or conversely, had Hitler lived there might never have been a State of Israel). At any rate, Muslims play the same role Jews did for Hitler in the Breivik universe. They are the irredeemably evil.

But interestingly, while Hitler chose to attack Jews unmercifully almost from the beginning of his political career, Breivik chose not to attack Muslims physically at all. Instead, he chose to attack the heart of the ‘Marxist multicultural’ beast, Norway’s ruling party and institutions of state. To his mind, the rightist revolution would resonate most with an attack on the soft underbelly of the state, rather than on the nation’s Muslims.  For Breivik, Marxists like those of the Norwegian Labor Party and the hated European Union, are collaborators with the Muslim enemy.  The former are the ones who will enable to latter to overrun Europe.  And because these collaborators are white Christians like himself, they are race traitors.  All of which probably justifies attacking them, before going on to ‘getting the job done’ against Muslims.  Here is his underlying thinking on the subject:

Why armed resistance against the cultural Marxist/multiculturalist regimes of Western Europe is the only rational approach

Multiculturalism, like drugs, is an insidious weapon. Both destroy the heart and fabric of a people. All ties to family, community, and one’s people as a whole are destroyed by these two opiates of the human mind. Both are sponsored from the top down by one world elitists bent upon creating a world order who’s power is such that its subjects posses no potential for resistance.

…War or armed resistance has traditionally always been used as a last resort, when dialogue has proven to ineffective. The justification for use of armed resistance against the European cultural Marxist/multiculturalist systems is tied to the outlook for cultural conservative political success. You have to ask yourself; is it remotely possible under the current conditions that a conservative, monocultural political party will ever gain substantial political influence? An increasing number of Europeans are opening their eyes to the reality that the democratical struggle through dialogue has been lost. The cultural Marxists have institutionalised multiculturalism and have no intention of ever allowing us to exercise any political influence of significance. In theory we, the cultural conservatives of Europe, have become slaves under an oppressive, tyrannical, extreme left-wing system with absolutely no hope of reversing the damage they have caused. At least not democratically..

Breivik made common cause with other European far-rightist groups like the English Defense League (whose name may be a deliberate echo of the Jewish Defense League), Geert Wilders and others. One factor that they all share is pro-Israelism. For them, the enemy of my (Muslim) enemy is my friend. That’s precisely why Pam Geller, Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, Bat Yeor and other Jewish anti- jihadis find the European far-right so attractive. And it’s a reason why all of them are so dangerous. Not in the way that Breivik is physically dangerous. But intellectually and politically dangerous.  Scott Shane wrote an interesting story about this today in the Times.

The Norwegian mass-murderer may’ve killed regardless of whether Geller et al. existed. But his certitude in his cause and the intellectual underpinnings of it come from them. Without them, he may’ve just been a malcontent searching for a cause. With them, he had a cause to live and die–and kill others–for.

Yesterday, I identified a number of interesting quotations from the Breivik manifesto and excerpted them in a post.  I’ve continued my review and there are several more quotations I’d like to offer.  This deals with the issue of expulsion of Muslims from Europe with a clear parallel to the policy of transfer advocated by Israeli nationalist rightists (including Lieberman, though in a slightly more refined articulation).  The call to action that concludes it is chilling and reveals that all that separates Breivik from Geller, Spencer et al. is the former’s willingness to take up arms, while the the latter do everything but:

Future deportations of Muslims from Europe

“It’s difficult to discuss deportation of Muslims openly in a society where it is not even allowed to discuss Islam…”

The reason why authors on the Eurabia related issues/Islamisation of Europe – Fjordman, Spencer, Ye’or, Bostom etc. aren’t actively discussing deportation is because the method is considered too extreme (and thus would damage their reputational shields). This would un-doubtfully undermine their work and probably disallowing them to publish any future books. However, the warning about Islam has been repeated for more than two decades and it is apparent that 40 more years of dialogue, without action, would have a devastating effect on Europe. If these authors are to scared to propagate a conservative revolution and armed resistance then other authors will have to.

Here Breivik outlines the need to rid oneself of the human impulse for mercy in this Christian conservative revolutionary jihad.  This passage distills his method to its pure essence:

The process of destroying and replacing the current cultural Marxist/ multiculturalist regimes of Western Europe will not be easy or painless….

As a Justiciar Knight you are operating as a jury, judge and executioner on behalf of all free Europeans. Never forget that it is not only your right to act against the tyranny of the cultural Marxist/multiculturalist elites of Europe, it is your duty to do so.  There are situations in which cruelty is necessary, and refusing to apply necessary cruelty is a betrayal of the people whom you wish to protect.

The preferred method is to attack in a violent and deceptive form (shock attack), usually with limited forces (1-2 individuals).  Once you decide to strike, it is better to kill too many than not enough, or you risk reducing the desired ideological impact of the strike. Explain what you have done (in an announcement distributed prior to operation) and make certain that everyone understands that we, the free peoples of Europe, are going to strike again and again. Do not apologise, make excuses or express regret for you are acting in self-defence or in a preëmptive manner. In many ways, morality has lost its meaning in our struggle. The question of good and evil is reduced to one simple choice. For every free patriotic European, only one choice remains: Survive or perish. Some innocent will die in our operations as they are simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Get used the idea. The needs of the many will always surpass the needs of the few.

In a subsequent passage, Breivik notes that the number of acceptable dead in this revolutionary coup d’état would be 45,000 (with 1-million wounded), which corresponds, in his delusional mind, to the numbers that the Marxist political élite have killed in their drive for continental dominance.  He notes that some conservatives also include in the number of those killed aborted fetuses, which raises the number to 2-million.

In this terrorist’s universe, the goal of overturning the Eurabian regime justifies use of weapons of mass destruction including chemical and biological weapons, which he goes to great lengths to specify.  He even speculates on the possibility of negotiating with Israel (noting that Israeli nationalists would be most likely to be sympathetic to his cause) for access to nuclear weapons though he concedes that Israel is unlikely to do so until it sees clear signs that his revolution is nearing success.

Anders Breivik, Norwegian Terror Suspect, Admirer of Israel, Avigdor Lieberman

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

The death toll from the savage attack in Norway has risen to 92 today.  Anders Breivik, a radical rightist who posted regularly to a neo-Nazi internet forum, is the only suspect arrested so far in the killings.  Electronic Intifada published excerpts of a 1,500 page magnum opus, A European Declaration of Independence, written by Breivik which portray his political philosophy.  Here, CNN covers the story of manifesto from a slightly different vantage than the one below.  For example, given the killer’s use of steroids and testosterone supplements, one speculates on the role they may’ve played in his rage-filled spree.

Chief among his enemies are Muslims and those non-Muslims who, in his mind, facilitate the triumph of Islam in the west.  That’s why he specifically attacked the seat of national government and a youth camp sponsored by the ruling Labor Party.  The Norwegian terrorist has an obsession with Marxism, and apparently equates the current left of center government with that ideology.  Alex Kane notes that the day before the attack on the island camp, it held a Palestine solidarity rally (an event which would’ve repelled the killer).  He viewed the country’s leaders as aiding and abetting Muslim terror, and multiculturalism as the poison by which Islam could spread itself throughout the west.

In his writings, he expresses the belief that one glorious act of terror could foment a huge Muslim counter-reaction which would allow a rightist coup to take over both Norwegian and European governments.  The only problem with this scenario is that he attacked Norwegian targets and not Muslims ones.  That’s what is most inexplicable about this incident.  Given his hatred of Islam and his belief that it is at the core of the rot that affects the world, why wouldn’t he target Norwegian Muslims?  That’s doubtless something the investigators have asked him during interrogation.

Breivik viewed Israel as an ally in the war against Islam.  Alex Kane tweets that he wrote:

“Let’s end stupid support for Palestinians…start supporting our cultural cousin, Israel.”

He also wrote this:

Cultural conservatives believe Israel has a right to protect itself against Jihad…Sensible people should support Zionism (Israeli nationalism) which is Israel’s right to self-defence against Jihad.

More excerpts from his manifesto:

* If one acknowledges that Islam has always oppressed the Jews, one accepts that Israel was a necessary refuge for the Jews fleeing not only the European but also the Islamic variety of anti-Judaism.

* Since the break-up of the Islamic Empire following World War I, various jihads have been fought around the globe by the independent Muslim nations and sub-state jihadist groups. The most sustained effort has been directed against Israel, which has committed the unpardonable sin of rebuilding dar al-harb on land formerly a part of dar al-Islam.

* How can anyone delete the horror of Muslim oppression over Christians and Jews which lasted for centuries and stretched over continents?

* Western Journalists again and again systematically ignore serious Muslim attacks and rather focus on the Jews, [which] only adds to the stockpile of proof that all Western journalists support the EU’s Eurabia project, [and] their enemy (based on coverage) is the Israeli…government…

* Were the majority of the German and European Jews disloyal? Yes, at least the so called liberal Jews, similar to the liberal Jews today that oppose nationalism/Zionism and support multiculturalism. Jews that support multiculturalism today are as much of a threat to Israel and Zionism (Israeli nationalism) as they are to us. So let us fight together with Israel, with our Zionist brothers against all anti-Zionists, against all cultural Marxists/multiculturalists….So, are the current Jews in Europe and US disloyal? The multiculturalist (nation-wrecking) Jews ARE, while the conservative Jews ARE NOT.  Aprox. 75% of European/US Jews support multiculturalism while aprox. 50% of Israeli Jews does the same. This shows very clearly that we must embrace the remaining loyal Jews as brothers rather than repeating the mistake of the NSDAP. Whenever I discuss the Middle East issue with a national socialist he presents the anti-Israeli and pro-Palestine argument. He always seem unaware of the fact that his propaganda is hurting Israeli nationalists (who want to deport the Muslims from Israel) and that he is in fact helping the Israeli cultural Marxists/multiculturalists with his argumentation.

Ali Abunimah notes he especially admires Avigdor Lieberman and his Yisrael Beitenu Party.  Outside Israel, he also follows the writing of Pam Geller, Robert Spencer (referenced 46 times in the Breivik manifesto) and Daniel Pipes (11 times).  Yesterday, I quoted a Norwegian website which claimed that Breivik had identified himself as Fjordman, a regular contributor to the anti-jihadi blogs mentioned above.  Geller has denied a connection, as has Gates of Vienna, and it’s possible they are right.  I haven’t seen definitive evidence that either proves Breivik and Fjordman are the same or that they aren’t.  I will say though that Breivik’s writings under his own name show a much greater predilection toward violence; Fjordman’s, while equally radical, seem satisfied to remain in the realm of political theory, rather than action.

But even if they are not one and the same, the fact that Breivik’s intellectual-political philosophy is inspired by each of them is a sign of the cesspool of hate found there.  Just as settler rabbis held a pulsa di nura excommunicating Yitzhak Rabin before his assassination; just as Bibi Netanyahu fired up a crowd featuring pictures of Yitzhak Rabin dressed in an SS uniform shortly before the assassination, so did the intellectual content of these websites shape the world-view of the assassin.

I do not want to even think about what I would do if someone who’d praised or linked favorably to my work went on a murderous spree.  I’d like to think that the very nature of my beliefs would militate against violence.  But I sure as hell know I wouldn’t do what Geller’s done, which is to completely avoid any serious deliberation or reflection on the issue.    She’s not responsible she writes in a post about mass murder which is rather inappropriately titled, Heads Explode.  Rather “the left” is responsible for associating her in any way with the violence:

This is war. And the left is vicious, amoral and depraved. They mean to win, and that is the only way they know how.

Indeed, Anders Breivik couldn’t have put it any better himself.  As for me, I’d certainly denounce the deed and its author if they praised me, something I doubt you’ll hear from the keyboards of Pam Geller, Spencer or Pipes.

To give you an impression of the depths of self-delusion such pathological types are capable of, note this self-portrait:

I consider myself to be a laid back type and quite tolerant on most issues.  Due to the fact that I have been exposed to decades of multicultural indoctrination I feel a need to emphasise that I am not in fact a racist and never have been.

The “laid back, quite tolerant” mass murderer.  A new personality type in the annals of deviant psychology.

Anders Behring Beivik, far-right terrorist accused of killing 80

A far-right Norwegian nationalist with ardent anti-Muslim views levelled savage blows at the mainstream political culture of his countrywith massive attacks on the government building housing the prime minister’s office and a summer camp at which young followers of the ruling Labor Party played.  He killed 80 people.  There are many questions raised by the savagery of this attack.  How could Norwegian security allow such a thing to happen in the heart of Oslo, in a government facility housing the nation’s leader and political heart?  How do we apprehend the enormity of the devastation and the fact that it was wrought by a far-right terrorist targeting the country’s liberal political leadership?  But for me, another important question which no one, so far is asking is why did most of the world first think the terrorist/s responsible were Muslim, when the actual killer hates Muslims? In fact, this is what the New York Times wrote in its story which did report the political affiliation of the killer:

Initial reports focused on the possibility of Islamic militants, in particular Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or Helpers of the Global Jihad, cited by some analysts as claiming responsibility for the attacks. American officials said the group was previously unknown and might not even exist.

There was ample reason for concern that terrorists might be responsible.

How’s that again?  Are the only terrorists in the world Muslim?    If so, what do we call a right-wing nationalist capable of planting major bombs and mowing down scores of people for the sake of the greater glory of his cause?  If even a liberal newspaper like the Times can’t call this guy a terrorist, what does that say about the mindset of the western world?

It’s absolutely imperative for the world to face the fact that for every Islamist willing to resort to violence there is a right-wing nationalist willing to do the same.  We can see that in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  Equally important to note that while there may be some on the left who have resorted to violence (in this country in the 1960s for example), the overwhelming share of mayhem comes from the political right.  We can see that in Israel, where the extreme settler movement assassinated a prime minister and murdered fellow Israeli Jews.  The same holds true here in the U.S., where a white supremacist, Jared Loughner, recently murdered a federal judge and several others in addition to nearly assassinating Gabrielle Giffords, a Jewish member of Congress.

UPDATE: Pam Geller is denying the statement below that Fjordman and Breivik are the same.  And readers have noted that Breivik refers in his own name online favorably to Fjordman in the third person.  Which either means that they are two separate individuals, or else Breivik is playing a double game.  But even if Geller is right, Breivik clearly admires the work of Fjordman, Geller, Spencer and the other anti-jihadi bloggers and says so in his own name.  If there are any Norwegian speakers who can help research Breivik’s writings and translate selected ones, please contact me.

Norwegian bloggers are reporting that Breivik is the author of a blog called Fjordman and that he’s guest blogged for Atlas Shrugs, Jihad Watch and Gates of Vienna “for years.”  As Breivik, he publicly praised one of her posts.  Elise Hendrick has translated a passage from Realisten which confirms that Fjordman and Breivik are one and the same:

According to his own statements, Anders Behring Breivik previously operated the blog ‘Fjordman’, and later wrote for many years under the pseudonym Fjordman for the anti-Muslim and Zionist blogs Gates of Vienna and Jihad Watch.

In fact, an intrepid friend of Elise’s has created a web page with the “collected works” of the miraculous Fjordman.  Pretty soon there’ll be a Festschrift in his honor.  And did you know he’s written a book (of course he has, he’s an articulate mass-murderer), Defeating Eurabia.  It’ll only set you back 50 bucks to get a glimpse into the mind of an anti-jihadi terrorist.  Here’s a favorable review of Geert Wilders magnum opus, Fitna penned by Fjordman.  And don’t ya know that feminism leads to the oppression of women, natch.  And Caucasophobia is racism, of course.

I was curious about the views of such an individual would be regarding Israel.  And lo and behold, the educated terrorist doesn’t disappoint.  Here is his Why Europeans Should Support Israel.  With friends like this does Israel need enemies?

There may be people out there more knowledgeable about the minds of assassins, but I’ve rarely heard of articulate mass murderers.  The most recent one that comes to mind is the Unabomber who wrote long treatises which were published unwillingly by several major newspapers.  Perhaps readers can think of others.  But generally, it appears that our man Breivik is a paragon of the pathological literary mindset.

I don’t think we can blame Robert Spencer or Pam Geller specifically for not being able to predict that one of their political allies would be a homicidal killer and terrorist.  But still, if you lie down with dogs you’ll wake up with fleas.  The brand of hate peddled by Geller and Spencer naturally attracts such a following.  H/t Loonwatch.

Breivik’s Twitter account contains a single tweet:

One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests.

To which I’ve replied in a tweet of my own:

One person with homicidal right wing beliefs is equal to the force of 100,000 who think only Muslims can be terrorists.

My strong hunch is that there must be a substantial group which participated in this conspiracy.  One man doesn’t make and plant two bombs and then travel to an island and kill 70 people alone.

Whether it is Israel, the U.S., or Norway, if we wear blinders which prevent us from seeing that Muslims are NOT the only people capable of mass political violence, then we have left ourselves vulnerable to the ascendancy of a violent far-right political culture.  If you examine what happened in 1995, when Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated, the Israeli political liberal-centrist mainstream basically imploded after a series of Palestinian bombings and the onset of the second Intifada.  All of which enabled the ascendancy of settler extremists and their Likud fellow travellers who have now taken control of Israel’s political discourse.  People now forget that one of the most savage acts of political incitement was a speech delivered by Bibi Netanyahu from a Jerusalem balcony while members of the crowd brayed for blood vengeance against Rabin.  The assassination followed shortly thereafter.  Bibi, the Likud and the settlers have been the ones who gained the most politically from the murder.

I would never hold that the political left is wholly pure and virtuous, but when it comes to an impulse to violence those on the far-right largely have the market cornered.
