Major Study Finds No Muslim-American Terror Menace

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Will someone tell Pam Geller, Robert Spencer, David Yerushalmi, and Gates of Vienna they might as well close up shop.  A new study reported by the NY Times‘ Scott Shane confirms what most of us knew all along.  The alleged phenomenon of Muslim-American terror is largely concocted from their fevered, belabored imagination:

A feared wave of homegrown terrorism by radicalized Muslim Americans has not materialized, with plots and arrests dropping sharply over the two years since an unusual peak in 2009, according to a new study by a North Carolina research group.

The study, to be released on Wednesday, found that 20 Muslim Americans were charged in violent plots or attacks in 2011, down from 26 in 2010 and a spike of 47 in 2009.

Charles Kurzman, the author of the report for the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security, called terrorism by Muslim Americans “a minuscule threat to public safety.” Of about 14,000 murders in the United States last year, not a single one resulted from Islamic extremism, said Mr. Kurzman, a professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina.

The report also notes that the number of American Muslims charged with terrorism since 9/11 has topped out at the whopping total of 193. Of all the thousands of such cases, only 193 were perpetrated by Muslims in the past 11 years! The anti-jihadis owe these American citizens an abject apology. But they won’t get one. Instead they’ll continue feeling the cold blast of hate. And anti-Muslim haters like Yerushalmi will continue their financially lucrative campaign of writing anti-Sharia laws for state governments, some of which don’t even have a substantial Muslim population living in their borders. If anything was a solution in search of a problem, this is it.

No doubt, Geller will be snooping into the study author’s background (Jewish) attempting to find bias or some other taint. Good luck to her. It won’t take much to satisfy her twisted mind that the study is part of the international conspiracy to downplay the Muslim menace.

Caroline Glick Gets Down and Dirty With Gates of Vienna and Other Racist Anti-Jihadi Friends

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

When Anders Breivik was getting down in the dumps about the Muslim takeover of Eurabia, he could always turn for succor to the pages of Gates of Vienna, where he would find the sort of reassuring anti-Muslim race hatred that soothed his fevered brow.  It was the type of vile anti-jihadi rhetoric that served as the intellectual fuel for his terror attack in Norway, which happened several months ago.  To be clear, the author of Gates of Vienna is not himself a terrorist as Breivik is.  He just helped shape Breivik’s intellectual and political world view.  Perhaps not making the blog an accessory to terror, but rather an accessory after the fact.

One of Breivik’s favorite Jews was Caroline Glick, a senior editor at the Jerusalem Post, and doyenne of the extreme settler right.  Glick is one of those responsible for the garbage peddled by Latma, which produced the We Con the World video which figuratively danced on the grave of the Mavi Marmara dead.  She also produced a video of an Israeli actor (had he been in blackface it would’ve been a perfect touch) mocking Barack Obama while singing songs about how much he, as the U.S. president, hated Jews.

Terrorism-inspiring Gates of Vienna hearts Caroline Glick

Now, comes news that Caroline Glick is beloved not only of Anders Breivik, but of the blogger, Ned May, who writes Gates of Vienna under the pseudonym, Baron Bodissey.  A few days ago May publicly recognized Glick for the helpful tips she’s sent his way.  In addition, the blogger explicitly thanks Glick for permitting him to arrange for translation of one of her Jerusalem Post editorials into Norwegian,  no doubt so all the families of the terror victims could be blamed yet again for not maintaining a proper bulwark between themselves and the onrushing Muslim hordes.

If Gates of Vienna republished her material without her permission who could blame Glick.  But when she explicitly approves of her work appearing in one of the most incendiary, Muslim hating websites in the world, that is unconscionable.

I never found out who wrote the Jerusalem Post editorial just after Breivik’s rampage which blamed, not the racist killer, but Norway’s permissive immigration policy.  This supposedly allowed the dirty masses to reach Norway’s shores and so enrage the killer that he was forced to do what any red-blooded Christian European should do.  Myhunch is that Glick either wrote this jewel herself or had a large hand in it.  Note, the Post’s managing editor was forced to write a half-assed apology when the dreck contained in the editorial single-handedly threatened to unsettle Israel-Norway relations.

The Post fired Larry Derfner for speaking a few unpalatable truths about terrorism, both Israeli and Palestinian, that even Israeli defense ministers have admitted in their more unbuttoned moments, yet the shmateh worships the ground on which Caroline Glick walks.  Disgusting.  Vile and disgusting.

This blog post is a veritable font of research and information about the most hateful of the Jewish anti-jihadi blogosphere.

Court Dismisses Neuwirth Libel Claim

Friday, August 19th, 2011

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

–Psalms

I’m not sure the Lord made or brought this day.  But I do share the joy of this Biblical passage.  Today, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Linda Lefkowitz dismissed Rachel Neuwirth’s libel claim against me.  This is a day that has been over four years coming.  During that time there were moments when I truly didn’t know what would happen and what sort of jeopardy my family and I might be in.  There were “well-wishers,” friends of Neuwirth who celebrated in comments they attempted to publish here, that I would lose my home and face financial ruin.  Even when I blithely assumed that the American justice system couldn’t possibly vindicate such a case and such a charge, my lawyers warned me that anything was possible and that I could assume nothing.

But thank God, reason and reasonableness prevailed.  I should also add that Prof. Joel Beinin, who was also sued by Neuwirth as part of the same legal action, had Neuwirth’s claim against him dismissed several months ago.  Both of us have been vindicated.  Now we know that when we have a good faith belief that someone holds Jewish extremist views we’re allowed to say it and the law will uphold our right to do so.  The justice system may not do with the alacrity I would’ve wished.  But it finally did so.

I should add that Neuwirth can still appeal this decision to the Court of Appeal and so we could be doing another round of this in the future.

My lawyers performed stellar service to me and the cause of freedom of speech.  They did so despite the mounting legal costs absorbed by their law firm over the years the case dragged on.  I thank them for standing by me.

The only sadness I have is for the many others charged similarly with insulting or defaming a public figure who couldn’t muster the terrific pro bono legal defense provided to me by my attorneys.  There are so many faced with such legal intimidation who must fold in the face of it.

For bloggers, I wanted to mention the Berkman Center sponsors a terrific legal clinic, the Online Legal Media Clinic, which offers legal representation to bloggers like me accused of various offenses.  Unfortunately, it didn’t exist when my case began.  I’m glad it does now.

Geller Accessory After Fact to Breivik Massacre?

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Little Green Footballs reports that Pam Geller published an e-mail from an unnamed Norwegian anti- jihadi in 2007, which indicated he was planning a major terror attack to dramatize his cause. Geller was so shocked by what he wrote that she called it “devastating in its matter of factness.” She also deliberately concealed the identity of the author in order to protect him from the Norwegian authorities.

Charles Johnson correctly noted the troubling nature of what Geller had done, including a lame attempt to edit out the most offensive portion of the message which reads:

“From Israel the hordes clawing at the walls of Jerusalem proclaim cheerfully that next year there will be no more Israel, and I know Israel shrugs this off as do I, and will mount a strike during the summer against all of its enemies in the middle east. This will make the muslims worldwide go into a frenzy, attacking everyone around them.

We are stockpiling and aching weapons, ammunition and equipment.

I have read several hundred pages of the Breivik manifesto and this language, especially it’s readiness to engage in extreme violence on behalf of nation and race, echoes Breivik’s document.

Add to that the fact that Geller has attempted to erase the evidence, and you have a very suspicious set of circumstances in which it’s reasonable to assume this message was from Breivik himself. Geller has in fact denied that her correspondent was Breivik.

What no one, as far as I know has written about this, is that the fact Geller received a message from someone publicly outlining his plans for mass murder and she concealed both the plans and his identity from the authorities. That makes her an accessory after the fact if he in fact acted. In fact, if I were the FBI I’d be beating down a path to her door and at the very least demanding the original version of the e-mail containing the author’s name.

Most of us know that Geller is a batshit crazy ideologue, but this takes her into an entirely different realm. She concealed evidence that might’ve allowed Norwegian authorities to begin monitoring his activities as early as 2007. That’s potentially criminal conduct.

On a slightly different note, the blog Unbossed notes that Jeffrey Goldberg’s first post about the Oslo attack was entitled, Muba Comes to Norway. In which he joined the anti-Muslim herd in blaming the attack on Muslims. When he discovered how wrong he was he edited the post to make it appear that it had made provision for the fact that the killer might’ve had different ideological motives. Goldberg has refused to acknowledge his original error, nor has The Atlantic felt any need to correct the record or apologize.

This is entirely in character with Goldberg’s previous journalistic sloppiness and predilection for seeing the world through pro- Israel rose-colored glasses.

Settler MKs Welcome Russian Neo-Nazi Holocaust Deniers to Knesset, Yad VaShem

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

When an Israeli reader sent this story to me I couldn’t believe the headline summarized above.  Further, in this day and age of Norwegian neo-Nazi, anti-jihadi attacks which wrap themselves in the Israeli flag, this story is simply mind-blowing.

russian neo nazis welcomed by israeli settlers

Russian neo-Nazis parade displaying Hitler salute before their settler-organized visit to Knesset and Yad VaShem.

It begins with a visit from a Russian neo-Nazi delegation to Israel.  Under the auspices of Tuvia Lerner, editor of the Russian edition of Arutz 7, the media voice of the settler movement, they inveigled themselves an invitation to meet with far-right MKs Aryeh Eldad and Ayoob Kara.  They also toured Yad VaShem without telling anyone there that they were Holocaust deniers.  Like I told you, this story has to be read to be believed.  The two Russians have been photographed giving Nazi salutes, celebrating Der Fuhrer’s birthday, and they published songs of praise to Adoph Hitler on their website.

Naturally, when they met with the MKs the ideas they espoused were quite different.  One of the neo-Nazis told Israeli TV that the concept of Israel “excites me,” because it involves “an ancient people who took upon itself a pioneer project to revive a modern state and nation.”  The TV reporter tartly asked how the neo-Nazi of yesterday suddenly became a Zionist.  How they did it, is by finding a common enemy: Islam (sound familiar?).  The second neo-Nazi tells the interviewer:

“We’re talking about radical Islam which is the enemy of humanity, enemy of democracy, enemy of progress and of any sane society.

With friends like this does Israel need enemies?  Does it wish to lie down with dogs who kill Chechens and Africans for sport only to rise up with fleas?  Who assassinate human rights activists and lawyers?  Who dream of a master race following its destiny?  Is Israel so desperate that it needs such friends in order to battle the common Muslim enemy?  Have we not learned a single thing from Anders Breivik?

Lerner attempts to defend his efforts to ingratiate the Russian fascist movement into the good graces of Israeli society by claiming that the two neo-Nazis told him they regretted the anti-Semitic statements they’d made fifteen years ago.  But can the leopard changes its spots??  The reporter notes that in just the past year the group wrote that the Holocaust was “a myth.”  Then he asks whether the apology was sincere and whether such figures belonged in a place in which the elected representatives of the nation gathered.

The report also features an interview with Eldad in which he feigns an intelligence he clearly lacks, when he says that he knew from the outset that something “didn’t smell right.”  And that he met them for only a few minutes (when the TV screen fills with images of him shaking hands and laughing jovially with the Russian delegation).

Anyone reading this blog knows my views about settler extremists, but how can Israel countenance such shocking, disgraceful acts from Arutz 7 and these disgusting representatives of the Israeli people elected to the Knesset?  Is anyone using their brains there?  Or has everyone lost their senses?  Regaling neo-Nazis with anti-jihadi jokes in the halls of the Knesset?  Defiling Yad VaShem with unreconstructed Holocaust deniers?  Please someone explain this to me (if you can).

N.Y. State Senator Hosts Anti-Jihadi Inquisition

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Anti-Muslim crusaders Frank Gaffney, Nonie Darwish and David Yerushalmi were shut out of Rep. Peter King’s recent Congressional hearings on alleged Islamic extremism.  But like a Jack in the Box, no sooner are they squashed than they rear their ugly heads once again.

N.Y. state senator Gregory Ball, a Republican representing that den of Muslim terror, rural Putnam County, took a page out of King’s book by alerting the unsuspecting citizens of the Empire State of the fifth column within.

Gaffney and the gang have once again insinuated themselves into the political mainstream by offering Sen. Ball their “expertise” on the subject.  And he’s swallowed it hook, line and sinker.  If he’s not careful it could bite him, as King’s initial embrace of Gaffney did.  The former ended up renouncing Gaffney in a spat that heard around the world…or at least the anti-jihadi blogosphere.

In the ultimate irony, before the hearing Ball counterattacked claiming that criticism of his witnesses was:

“Just an attempt by some to drum up national publicity.”

At today’s hearing he pandered on a similar issue:

…“There are some who are more concerned about the front-page press than today,” Mr. Ball said. “I understand politics. But we cannot allow our homeland security to become a political football.”

Obscure rural politicians never attempt to drum up state-wide or national publicity by holding hearings on non-existent problems, do they?  And they’re certainly not concerned about front page press.  And kicking Muslims in the gut is certainly not political, not at all.

One of the stars of the proceedings was the notorious Mr. King himself who made this typically two-faced statement both exonerating and blaming Muslims for terror in practically the same breath:

Mr. King prefaced his comments by noting that “99 percent” of Muslims in the United States are “outstanding Americans” and not terrorists.

“But the fact is: The enemy, or those being recruited by Al Qaeda, live within the Muslim community, and that’s the reality we have to face,” Mr. King said. “This is not to put a broad brush over a community, but you go where the threat is coming from, and that’s the reality today.”

I’ve already reported here that Gaffney’s ‘Roy Cohn,’ David Yerushalmi, who is general counsel of the former’s Center for National Security, received a failing report card from the ADL, which labelled him an extremist and compared his views to that of the white supremacist New World Order.

But I just learned the even more startling news that during the Stop the Madrassa campaign led in part by Yerushalmi, he sued Debbie Almontaser for defamation.  She told me that she had accused Yerushalmi and his shrill collaborators of stalking her.  The crack lawyer not only lost his suit, but he lost the appeal and Almontaser emerged vindicated and victorious.

Again, this an example of the concept of lawfare, a term used by  pro-Israel advocates to smear legitimate attempts to hold Israeli leaders accountable for violations of international law.  Except here Yerushalmi turns the concept on its head to harass his opponents.  I recently received a dose of this with a threat of a lawsuit from him, which he subsequently withdrew.

NOTE: I’ve been a bit distracted from the blog this week because I was defending a libel lawsuit in Los Angeles.   More news after the judge renders her decision.

Peter King’s Anti-Muslim Jihad

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

peter king anti muslim hearingsTomorrow, Rep. Peter King, one of the most prominent anti-Muslim members of Congress (who wrote a suspense novel about a Congressman who foils an Al Qaeda plot), plans to hold the first of several hearings on the supposed menace posed by the radicalization of American Muslims.

As one who has studied the anti-Muslim movement over the course of the past few years, King’s rhetoric and tone in explaining the rationale for the hearings came right out of the playbook of Steve Emerson, Daniel Pipes, Pam Geller, David Yerushalmi, Robert Spencer and the like.  Among the politician’s wild claims is one that “85%” of American mosques are controlled by “radical imams” and that Muslims are “an enemy living amongst us.

Returning to the anti-jihad mafia, King consulted closely with a number of them including Emerson.  At their suggestion, he originally had planned to call Aayan Hirsi Ali, a radical anti-Muslim who has made a good living out of publishing books and telling paying audiences of the evils of Islam.  She is a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.  Another dropped witness was Walid Phares, a Lebanese Maronite Christian, darling of the anti-jihadi set, star of the lurid Clarion anti-jihadi films, Third Jihad and Iranium, and former Washington DC representative of the Lebanese Phalange, which brought the world among other things, Sabra and Shatilla.  The radical right was also under the impression King would call Emerson and Spencer to testify.  But he caved on this as well.

This happened in the face of extraordinary pressure from Pres. Obama and others defending the honor and decency of American Muslims, causing him to tone down his witness list and his rhetoric.

uncle sam hates immigrants

uncle sam hates immigrants

Fear of immigrants and 'alien' religions (like Judaism, as in this cartoon) runs historically deep in America

Despite this, elements of King’s harsh anti-Muslim viewpoint remain in the form of a few of the guests.  The most noted one being Zuhdi Jasser, a right-wing Republican neocon who is the favorite “good Muslim” trotted out by people like Emerson.  Glenn Beck has called him the “Muslim that we were all searching for after 9-11″ and “a voice I trust.”  Considering how much Beck hates Muslims, that should tell you a good deal about Jasser’s views of his co-religionists.  I’ve profiled Jasser several times in this blog.  I even earned a polite request from his lawyer to edit a post I wrote about him (which I naturally refused to do).  Media Matters has also profiled him.  Unlike Christian Arab Muslim haters like Phares and Brigitte Gabriel, Jasser is Muslim, though a harsh critic of just about everything in American Islam.  He’s such a favorite that he’s been the star of not one, but two Clarion Fund films which posit a conspiracy by this country’s Muslims to topple the government and Constitution and replace it with Sharia law.  Clarion, you’ll recall, is the producer of a total of three films which take aim at various alleged Islamic conspiracies against western values, the latest one being Iranium, which advocates a military strike against Iran.  Clarion is an arm of the pro-settler group, Aish HaTorah.

The N.Y. Times has exposed Rep. King’s own ties to terrorism in his avid fundraising on behalf of the Irish Republican Army, when it was designated a terror group by the U.S. government.  The fundraising done in this country for the IRA was largely used to purchase and devise bombs and other weapons used in the IRA struggle against British rule in Northern Ireland.  In fact, he defended the IRA’s deadly attacks on civilians:

“If civilians are killed in an attack on a military installation, it is certainly regrettable, but I will not morally blame the I.R.A. for it.”

King even complained that the Secret Service was investigating him for his close ties to Irish terror operatives.

King’s rather unconvincing defense of his actions notes that the IRA didn’t attack Americans (with the implication being that American Muslims would).  It seems to me that while the IRA may’ve been different from Al Qaeda and other radical Islamist groups in some respects, they both kill/ed civilians and a lot of them.  The fact that the IRA killed British civilians or Irish Protestants and Al Qaeda killed Americans seems meaningless sophistry.

The tone of these hearings invokes a similar hysteria of an earlier era, that of the House Committee on Un-American Affairs (HUAC), which rooted out so-called Reds and radicals from positions of influence in American society.  This is an era of the Communist witch-hunt which most Americans today deplore as a badge of shame for this country.  It seems to me that without strenuous objection to King’s hearings, he may take us down a similar road.  The pols who sat on HUAC too were looking to burnish their careers and score quick, easy political points with their constituents.  Like them, Peter King is looking to make a name for himself as a terrorist hunter.

But, just as HUAC was long on outrageous claims and short on results, so King is doing a deep disservice to the vast majority of American Muslims who live lives like ours, share values like ours, and seek the same goals for themselves and their families.  Demonizing Muslims is a cheap shot, a political trick.  It’s easy to score points on a relatively small, politically vulnerable minority.  American politics has a long history of xenophobia regarding the most recent wave of immigrants.  In the 19th century it was Know Nothings raving about the Irish Catholic Papist.  In the 20th, it was the KKK campaigning against Blacks and Jews.  In the 21st century, Muslims become the immigrants du jour of the Know Nothing American right (better known as the Tea Party).

If Peter King and his committee were serious about this subject, they would explore ALL of American Muslim life, not just alleged proclivity toward terrorism.  That would be a set of hearings that would teach Americans much more comprehensively about their fellow citizens.  Or alternatively, King could study radicalization of many different groups within American society, of which Muslims might be one.

King specifically rejected the latter approach in a statement that betrays his racism:

If we included these other violent events in the hearings, we’d be sending the false signal that we think there’s a security threat equivalency between Al Qaeda and the neo-Nazi movement, or Al Qaeda and gun groups. There is none.”

Mr. King added, “I’m not going to dilute the hearings by including other extremists.”

In the minds of the radical right figures I mentioned above, of course it would dilute the hearings to include other dangerous Americans prone to terrorism, because in their view Muslims are the most prone to violence.  Which of course is an odious lie.

Pam Geller Named to Southern Poverty Law Center Hate Hall of Fame

Saturday, March 5th, 2011
pam geller

Pam Geller huffs and puffs on FoxNews

The Southern Poverty Law Center comes a bit late to the game in understanding the power and danger of anti-Muslim hate.  But they’ve made great strides by naming Pam Geller’s Stop the Islamization of America as an official hate group, alongside such wonderful representatives of the species as the Westboro Baptist Church, the Aryan Nation, KKK, and the Nation of Islam.  It’s about time Pam was recognized for her important contribution to the genre of hate.

She responded by publishing Morris Dees divorce papers, as if that was supposed to somehow defame SPLC.  Such lunacy on her part is rich when you consider that she and her husband operated a car dealership with alleged ties to the mob and an especially gruesome murder.  She also exhibited her typical histrionic bellowing observed whenever her ox is gored:

“It’s outrageous that the SPLC designates a group dedicated to protecting the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and legal equality for all Americans as a ‘hate group,’” she said. “The SPLC, instead of standing for those freedoms, is carrying water for the real haters, the real neo-Nazi Jew-haters: the forces of Islamic supremacism and jihad. The SPLC doesn’t even have a category for Islamic jihadi groups. The greatest threat facing our nation, our people, our world, and they are shilling for them.”

…The SPLC is just a cash cow for the clueless and/or complicit tools of Islamic supremacism on the Left. The SPLC is reviled in civil rights circles for its notorious reputation. It does little to no work, while its officials enriching themselves by raising huge amounts from unsuspecting donors.”

I hate to spoil the party Pammy, but precisely which “civil rights circles” revile SPLC for its “notorious reputation?”  She of course means her own organization which she (seriously, now) views as a “civil rights” organization.  Why sure, she’s for the civil rights of everyone who isn’t Muslim.  I wonder if she’s opposed to allowing Muslims to be American citizens.  You see it creates a rather inconvenient problem because once they’re citizens they’re entitled to the rights we white people (and even Black people, heaven forfend) enjoy.

Her talk about SPLC being a cash cow for its officials is also rich when you consider the tony digs Pammy enjoys on New York’s Upper Eastside in her multi-million dollar condo, thanks to the support of her “clueless complicit tools of anti-Muslim hate on the right” whose largess offers her the lifestyle to which she’s become accustomed and entitled.  Not to mention her husband–who conveniently passed away just as she began her anti-Muslim jihad–willing her the gains, gotten and ill, of their Long Island car dealership.

I’m also delighted to see the Jewish Task Force on the list, which is a JDL-spinoff run by Chaim Ben Pesach, aka Victor Vancier.  The latter served time in federal prison for engaging in acts of terror while he was in the JDL.  Many believe that Vancier is the owner of the Masada2000 hate site.

SPLC, by rights, should add other American Jewish extremist settler support groups like Hebron Fund and Central Fund of Israel to its list since they echo Geller’s anti-Muslim ideology.  Several years ago, I called and spoke to Mark Potok about this, but I don’t think he felt the urgency that I did.
