Inexperienced Illinois Congress Member

Oct 11th, 2008 by Richard Silverstein | 0

The original caption for this image is in error. Actually, Lincoln had even less experience at a federal level than Obama since the former had been defeated by Stephen Douglas in the election for senate. Lincoln was a one-term Congress member at the time he was nominated for president. He didn’t do half-bad as president.

Obama has also thought long and hard about Lincoln’s legacy as this Time Magazine portrait makes clear.  And anyone who reads this beautifully composed contemplation will know why Barack Obama is a fitting inheritor of the Lincoln legacy.

Thanks to reader Ann for pointing me to this quite apt piece of political humor.
