  1. Zhu Bajie says:

Frankly, I expect the US to get even more violent than it is, too. Cons will blame libs for losing their houses, etc., religiousrightniks will blame Israelis for Jesus’ failure to Rapture them away from their problems, poor whites will blame colored people. And vice versa. You don’t have to be a right-winger to be a gun-nut.

  2. fiddler says:

What would any other state do with citizens who seek to overthrow it by violent means?

    There you go:
Count Arco-Valley, for the 1919 murder of Kurt Eisner: death penalty, commuted to life sentence, released after 4 years
Oltwig von Hirschfeld, for the 1920 assasination attempt on Matthias Erzberger, 18 months
Walther von Lüttwitz, co-conspirator of Wolfgang Kapp in the attempted coup d’etat of 1920, flew to Hungary, amnestied in 1925
Otto Marloh, illegal summary execution of 29 (or 31) soldiers of the Volksmarinedivision (of the Nov. 1918 revolution), 3 months
Horst von Pflugck-Harttung and Franz Weller, for the murder of Karl Liebknecht: aquitted
Otto Wilhelm Runge, for taking part in the murder of Rosa Luxemburg: 2 years, didn’t serve any of it thanks to defense minister Gustav Noske
Hermann Souchon: for shooting and killing Rosa Luxemburg: court martial proceedings adjourned infinetely
Waldemar Pabst: for ordering this murder: not even charged, thanks to Noske’s influence
Adolf Hitler, for the 1923 “Beer Hall Putsch”: 4 years, released after 9 months, he wasn’t even deported to his native Austria.
Erich Ludendorff, for the same: aquitted

Where is the Israeli Emil Julius Gumbel?

    richard,
schizophrenic – i think that is the keyword. Im in direct communo w/ppl in gaza/khan younis…believe me, i see all sides to everything imaginable. Biut I do know, firsthand, there are plenty of frauds in Gaza…oy god help us.

Let’s just keep “schizophrenic” in mind. Really.

  4. David says:

you’ve hit on the key with the gov’t. it’s schizo in part because it doesn’t really know what it wants – and it’s not really a true democracy by any true measure. The Supreme Court elects its own members, there’s no constituent representation, cabinet positions are favors by the PM, and the list goes on – including the problem of few checks and balances and no constitution. As Paul Eidelberg has been writing for many years, Israel will be the world’s example of democracy by showing itself – perhaps unjudgementally, a the world’s foremost (and most comprehensively) rational or normative democracy, based on true spiritual morality. Other countries don’t have to follow, but this level of stated authority would be a blessing – either from near or from far.
