One thing that Assad is signaling is that he doesn’t want to deal with lame ducks like Bush or Olmert. He wants an agreement that will stick and who can blame him given Israel’s history of negotiating deals and then abandoning them when they don’t suit its perceived interests.

Reading your post without knowing any better one would get the impression that Mr. Assad is a credible leader and negotiator nor that he himself would have any alterior motives for calling off negotiations? lol!!
One would be led to believe that Mr. Assad is a person one should take cues from in the Middle East… and it is Israel that consistently negotiates in bad faith and is a professional at double speak…

Perhaps the US electorate could demand an extended long interview with Mr. Assad on CBS news to ask who he endorses for President and give him unlimited time to ruminate about the Middle East and Israel.
Just as long as he is not asked about Syria’s long history of double speak, murder, negotiatons in bad faith, or how/why it has murdered leaders in the Lebanese Parliament as well as independent news reporters and supports just about every Islamic terrorist organization?

With only a word changed here or there the above statement could hold true for Israel as well. Strange that the behavior of Syria & Israel mirror ea. other in a number of disturbing ways.
