Arkansas Democratic Party Chair Killed

Aug 13th, 2008 by Richard Silverstein | 1

I hate to say this but it seems to be open season on liberals and Democrats in the South. I know, I know. The South is a big place and there are many Democrats and even liberals there (that’s a joke by the way). But how else to understand both today’s shooting and the rampage last month during prayer services in a Unitarian church in Knoxville that left two dead and a number seriously wounded?

Dare I say that the “Southern strategy” of a certain segment of the right-wing movement in the South seems to be to “off” their opponents?

I should point out that we don’t yet know what was the motivation for today’s shooting in Arkansas. It might not have been politically motivated. But the fact that it happened in State Party headquarters gives us a strong indication that the shooter was yet another good ol’ gun-toting crazy who sought to right the political balance by killing those he detested.

I commend the Unitarian Universalist community for releasing a tremendously positive ad responding to the massacre in Knoxville, in which they reaffirm their commitment to the very values which drove the shooter to attack them. That takes guts and a strong Christian heart.

    Ugh….

You know, Richard, the talk radio does not help. If you are unfamiliar with Spocko, google him and read his blog a bit - he made waves by protesting (successfully) a radio station which went beyond hate speech - they literally called on people to murder “libs”.

What we have on most AM radio stations here in America is literally Radio Hutu, Radio Rwanda, calling for murders (but they are just joking, say their lawyers, and it;s FREE speech anyway) and many of these people make Limbaugh seem rational, sane, and a left wing radio host…
