Save a Life–Do a Bone Marrow Donor Test

Mar 26th, 2007 by Richard Silverstein | 0

Someone posted this in a comment thread here and I thought it worthy to turn it into a post in its own right. I have had a bone marrow donor test done already and I recommend anyone who hasn’t to have it done. You could give the blessing of life to someone and perform a great mitzvah. Here is the announcement:

Zichron Menachem Bone Marrow Drive - Dafna
March 08, 2007
Dafna, a mother of 3, is fighting for her life. Bone marrow transplantation could save her. Nowadays, a simple saliva test could help determine the compatibility of potential bone marrow donors. Time is running out for Dafna, a mother of three young children, who must undergo Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) to stay alive. Please help us fund the tests necessary to save the life of Dafna and many more cancer patients awaiting BMT. Please take this opportunity to help save a life.
All saliva samples are to be stored in a database, which would be used to save the lives of over 120,000 Cancer patients in Israel.

For further details call (212) 594-6996 or e-mail mickyw@zichron.org

In Need of Kidney Transplant
February 07, 2007
Dear Members of the U.S. Jewish Community,

A member of the Jewish community of the greater Washington, D.C. area has just discovered that she is in dire need of a kidney transplant due to a sudden diagnosis of end-stage kidney disease. Her condition is caused by the same rare disease that affected Alonzo Mourning (the basketball player). Anyone with Type B+ or O+ blood who would consider this procedure would be greatly appreciated. For the donor the surgery is done laparoscopically with minimal scarring and recovery time. All of the donors’ medical costs as well any incidental expenses including loss of income will be covered.

All interested parties should call Eloida Gonzalez, the transplant coordinator at Washington Hospital Center at 1-800-252-2442 or 202-877-9035. She will be happy to discuss the entire protocol and arrange the required testing for interested parties.

All inquiries will be kept strictly confidential.

Please reference patient C. Segal.

Thank you so much for considering this and passing along this message to the other communities in your lives so that we can spread this word as widely as possible. Her optimal chances for success involve finding a donor within the next two months
