Goldman Sachs’ ‘Green Revolution’: Hybrid Limos

Feb 28th, 2007 by Richard Silverstein | 2

I kid you not. A New York Times reporter tried to slip in this little green bonus to Goldman Sachs in the paper’s story on the levereraged buyout of the energy company, TXU:

People involved in the negotiations said that Goldman Sachs, an adviser and lender to the buyers, helped broker peace with environmental groups and sought their support for the transaction. Goldman Sachs has been one of the most aggressive firms on Wall Street about taking action on climate change; the company sends its bankers home at night in hybrid limousines.

Sorry for the profanity but…big fucking deal. What do they want–a medal? You send your fat cat bankers home at night in a hybrid limo that’s still an environemental outrage.

There are examples of more blatant hypocrisy elsewhere:

Yes - thanks once again to a right-wing hit squad using Lies, Damn Lies, and statistics to try to distract us from what really matters. Is it any wonder that a working farm of a very wealthy man uses 20 times more electrcity than the “National Average”?

I don’t know if the Gore estate could do more to reduce carbon emissions, but neither does the non-partisan souding “The Tennessee Center for Policy Research” which of course is a “Libertarian” lobbying organization. This by no means proves Gore is a hypocrit and certainly has no bearing on the truth of the message of the very excellent film “An Inconvenient Truth” which I did see (did you Marco?)
