   NPR has on some ‘authority’ who patiently ‘explains’ that there is no connection between the Palestine/Israel situation and Iraq.
   and
   Wolfe Blitzer (CNN, former AIPAC lobbyist) interviews Dennis Ross who explains the ‘errors of fact’ in Jimmy Carter’s book. Ross smirched and smeared Carter. Now Carter knows how it feels to attack the Sacred Cow.

   There was a time (esp. during the Clinton Administration) when I felt that every word coming from Dennis Ross’ mouth on the Arab-Israeli conflict was sharp & cogent. Not so anymore. I believe he is a fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Peace which is the think tank arm of Aipac. I think he’s also a fellow at the Israel Policy Forum, a dovish group. Go figure.

   I read one of the ‘historical criticisms’ of Carter’s book coming from Kenneth Stein in yesterday’s NYT. He claims Carter, in the book, recollects visiting the White House in the summer of 1990 when Stein claims he visited in April, 1990. Whew, another Carter fallacy unveiled! Imagine the perfidy & shocking historical inaccuracies!

   The “no connection” line comes directly from Ehud Olmert. It’s almost like the NPR “authority” has taken his talking points from Olmert’s interview yesterday.

   If a peace deal was signed tomorrow between the Israeli’s and Palestinians, it’s not like the Sunnis and Shi’ites would stop fighting and the Kurds would stop trying to have an independent state, being the single issue that would solve our problems in Iraq.

   But the Israeli-Palestinian conflict makes everything worse – particularly in viewing the US and it’s support of Israel, as an agent that is “Anti-Muslim”…

   From what I understand in Iraq, while I think the percentage of “foreign fighters” (ie non-Iraqi insurgents) is no longer a factor, at the start of the conflict I do believe it was (and I know first hand from a personal friend who was a Marine who did two tours).

   I suspect the mindset of many across the Muslims world, to come and fight the Americans – they see it as a “proxy” as fighting the Zionist enemy…

   Peace in Palestine won’t bring electrity to homes in Baghdad, but it will, among many other things, show that two factions that have been at such bitter, violent odds for many years, can come to terms with their issues, make and agreement, and live side-by-side. What an incredible lesson and example that would be for the Iraqis.

   All we are saying, is give peace a chance…
