Pat Robertson: Tsunami to Hit Pacific NW

May 19th, 2006 by Richard Silverstein | 0

Pat, what we have we done wrong? Aren’t we studying our Bibles intensively enough for you? Is it our godless lifestyle the Lord hates? Why else would He have marked us for the Big Wave?

Yes, Pat Robertson’s just huddled with the good Lord and has it on divine authority that some bad shit is in store for our Pacific NW (this from the Seattle Times via AP):

In another in a series of notable pronouncements, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says God told him storms and possibly a tsunami will hit the U.S. coastline, including the Pacific Northwest, this year.

Robertson has made the predictions at least four times in the past two weeks on his news-and-talk television show “The 700 Club” on the Christian Broadcasting Network, which he founded.

“If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms,” Robertson said May 8. On Wednesday, he added, “There well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.”

It couldn’t possibly be that Robertson’s stoking his followers’ fears in order to shill for big bucks for his so-called charities? Media Matters quotes a 700 Club program transcript:

We’re positioning supplies in California. We’ve got supplies positioned in Florida. We’ll have others, and, of course, we have a major presence in the Gulf right now. We’re there because we feel the Lord wants us to help people. We feel it’s our duty to help the poor and the needy. And so when you contribute $20 a month to The 700 Club, you are saying, “I care about people. I care about my neighbors, I care about my friends, I care about those who are suffering.

And of course you’re saying: “I care about linking Pat’s pockets with Mammon.” And can Pat explain how stocking supplies in California is supposed to help the Pacific NW? Perhaps the good Lord could teach the Reverend that Seattle is a good 1,000+ miles from San Francisco??
