Abramoff: D.C. Rashi*??

Jan 10th, 2006 by Richard Silverstein | 0

His father, Frank, said he was pained.

“I don’t understand the situation that’s engulfed our family,” Frank Abramoff said. “My son is a religious person, a charitable-minded person. He’s worked hard all his life and never asked for anything, and now for this to happen.”

An Orthodox Jew, Mr. Abramoff has been writing a commentary about the Torah.
New York Times

It will consist of one long meditation on the verse “Thou Shalt Not Steal!” And it will have to be published by Regnery Press, the printing press for the neocon community. His will join their other such immortal titles as War Stories III by Ollie North and The Dittohead’s Guide to Adult Beverages.

But really, does this guy never stop with the outrageousness?? I swear even Jon Stewart couldn’t make this stuff up if he tried (and Jon Stewart is GOOD):

People close to Mr. Abramoff say he believes that he had fallen away from his faith, not praying or reading the Talmud as much as he should.

This is pure bizarro-world stuff, folks. What use is prayer or Talmud when your personal value system is rotten to the core?? And if he thinks this is likely to increase sympathy for him within the Jewish or Orthodox Jewish world…I strongly doubt it. For us ((I am Jewish, but not Orthodox), Jack is a train wreck.

* “Rashi” was the great medieval Talmudic commentator
