Jennifer McIlvaine has opened Bruschettina (”Farmer’s Market Fare”) at the Columbia City Farmer’s Market this summer. She prepares wonderful tapas-style snacks on her trusty gas grill (pity the poor girl in this summer heat!). They’re magnificent. If, like me, you sometimes don’t eat lunch–you can take a tasty late one at the Market (open 3-7 PM on Wednesdays) with Jennifer while you do your shopping.
She chooses her major ingredients from other Market vendors: Tallgrass hominy bread (one of my favorite breads), goat cheese, beets, etc. She toasts up the bread on the grill and offers four different ingredient options: chickpeas and octopus (mmm!), beets and olive oil, chevre and chopped ? and cucumbers with olive oil.
The last time I posted about a Columbia City vendor (Belle’s Buns) Food & Wine Magazine noticed and asked to include Carolyn Ferguson in an upcoming article about artisanal baking. I can’t promise Jennifer anything that grand. But having my reader’s approbation and patronage would be nice for starters!

What unusual ingredients! Octopus sounds great. Thanks for the tip–I’ll have to check that out soon!
