I’m trying to use Ecto’s Media Insertion feature for the first time.  I don’t have a clue how it works or what it will do after uploading it to my blog.  I hope it will allow you to listen either to the song or at least to a part of it.  Let’s see.

Ecto didn’t perform quite as I expected.  Yes, it uploaded the song data to the post.  But it didn’t upload the mp3.  As someone who periodically likes to write posts about songs and CDs I love, a Media Insertion feature that allowed you to automatically upload all or a portion of a song from one’s computer to the blog server would be great.

Instead, I’ve manually uploaded the mp3 file so you can listen to it by clicking the song title above.

Josefins Dopvals

This song written for nyckelharpa by band member, Roger Tallroth, is from Vasen‘s Spirit (1997) CD.  Tallroth wrote the waltz tune for the baptism of a friend’s child.  As such, it is an inspiring tune full of elegance and stateliness.

The nyckelharpa (or ‘key fiddle’) is like no other instrument you’ve ever seen.  It possesses a drone-like quality which calls to mind medieval stringed instruments.  The drone creates a hypnotic effect on the listener and lends great power to the tune.

As you listen to Josefins Dopvals, you feel carried away with its grandeur and a certain musical quality that represents the finest that humanity has to offer.

I sometimes imagine the child in whose honor this tune was written.  If I were Josefin, I’d feel tremendous pride and gratitude for having such a majestic piece of art created for me.
